Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 21-Jun 27,2021
I came home today free having a LTVH. My rectum and uterus were adhered together which probably explains my bowel issues during my periods. I had endometriosis removed and adhesions removed that the surgeon referred to as “drapery”. I also had a right adnexal mass removed and will have to wait for the biopsy report. The mass is what led to my surgery. After a lot of pelvic pain and worsening periods I finally went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound. Took a week for the NP to call with results as she had to go over them with my GYN. The Gyn wanted to see me and decided to wait 5 wks to do another US. The mass he said only grew a mm. He didn’t lnow what it was but didn’t want to operate because of complications I had three years prior when I had both tubes removed (sepsis and peritonitis). I left crying because I was in horrible pain and couldn’t get help. I asked for a copy of the report it actually grew 1.1 cm or 11 mm! So I asked for a second opinion. The doctor he referred me to did a telemed consult and scheduled me for surgery a week later. So yesterday was the big day. They weren’t letting people in with patients due to Covid but I got a note from my Psych I see due to PTSD from my past surgery.
Surgery went well. I have been in a lot of pain. I was supposed to stay 23.5 hrs at the hospital due to past complications but the resident doctor released me this morning after 15 hrs. So far pain control has been my biggest challenge. I am allergic to most so I only have Tylenol 1000 mg to take. At the hospital Fentanyl wasn’t even touching the pain. Oddly, my neck is hurting and down my arm. I am guessing gas. I didn’t have time to reply prepare for surgery so I am winging it. My doctor made it sound like I would be recovered in two weeks (presurg). I don’t see how that is even remotely possible. My entire abdomen hurts at the slightest movement. The hospital papers discharge home instructions were for any laparoscopic surgery and not specific to hysterectomies or me personally. It says to take Motrin and Aspirin and I have a bleeding disorder. It says I can lift up to 20 lbs. I asked the nurse and she was like ya, no, you can’t. So my instructions aren’t accurate and my husband is basing my recovery off it and that the doctor thinks two weeks. He is talking about going to a water park in four weeks. From everything I’ve read that’s not happening. At this point I am exhausted and awake for 10-30 min then need to nap.

Sweetie, am so sorry!!
First, we need to get you on top of the pain.
Make sure to tak your meds on time, all the time, as much as you need while staying in the allowed doses of course.
Then we need you to rest. REST.
Don't listen to the bad discharge order, listen to the nurse who cautioned you and then call your doc on Monday (or before if you need).
And listen to us here!
Don't listen to your husband. He is not a doctor.
I will post some info to give to your husband.
He and all others need to know that you just had MAJOR surgery and extra surgeries on top of the hysterectomy and you need your rest.
A water park in 4 week, I don't think so.
You will see how you feel. This is is early days.
I am sending you a special hug!!

I did not have any post op nausea. I would call pharmacy. Good luck!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 21-Jun 27,2021
Today is day two since my surgery. I did not stay any in hospital, was released right after surgery. Tonight I got up to pee and passed a clot about the size of a quarter. It was dark almost black. I am not bleeding that bad as I am not even spotting on a pad. I do have some abdominal pain where my incisions are. I have been taking blood thinners, ibuprofen and narcotics for pain. I have been having gas pains move throughout. I have been up walking and even helped make some dinner tonight. I was worried about the clot so I called the hospital from my surgery and they said to wait until the AM and call the surgeon to see what they want to do. I am scared over that.

Day 3 post op. Moving slow but steady. Overdid the Restoralax 😳 that was not fun. Incision tender today for the first time, one side is completely numb and other side stings. My husband says its about 9 inches. I had 3 very large fibroids plus some small ones. I'm having my hubby dry incision with a hairdryer on cool a couple of times a day.
Listening to audiobooks. My friend bought me colouring book & dirty word search book haha!
I hope everyone is doing well!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 21-Jun 27,2021
Well my best friend stayed with me the first two nights, so since Friday. She went back home today as her husband had to go back to work tonight and she had to take care of the kids. So I am here with my 3 pups now alone. It is odd because I live by myself with my 3 dogs and that is normally ok, but since she left I have felt so alone and emotional. I feel almost lost. It is such an odd feeling even though I am alone normally anyways and fine with that. I know they said there would be some emotional stuff but I did not think loneliness and feeling lost would be part of it. Does this get better? I am so tired too. I know I am just 2 days post op but when she was here I took my dogs out and walked around my apartment building for both days. Today I feel like I just want to sleep and have zero energy. I am not good when emotions get off due to anxiety disorder and CPTSD. I just need to feel like I am in control and right now I don’t. Ugh tips would be great!

I had surgery the same day. I can barely stay awake let alone help make dinner. I hope the clot was a one time thing. Maybe too much too soon?

I had surgery the 25th too. I didn’t keep anything though. I have zero energy. Today I feel like I have a lot of anxiety. I have PTSD from when I had my
Tubes removed three years ago and developed sepsis and peritonitis after.
I’m at about the mark that started to show and my first signs were sensitivity to sound and anxious feelings and it seems to be what I’m feeling now. But my temp seems ok so I think it’s coincidence and maybe because I’m not on any HRT and according to the doc at discharge my levels most likely were low already because of where I was in my cycle. My surgeon said he was going to prescribe HRT so I have no idea why he didn’t and he never returned the question from the nurse. I’m 41 and had regular cycles so it’s probably a shock to my system not having estrogen being produced.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 21-Jun 27,2021
sweeties-
I am sorry that several of you are having an especially hard time today.
Let's talk emotions, shall we?
With a hysterectomy, your ovaries were robbed of their primary blood supply.
So they need to "figure things out" and that will take a little while.
So basically, welcome to the emotional
Whether you lost one ovary or none or both- you are right now in a state of total hormonal confusion.
And you may feel experience feeling of being lost, or woozy, dizzy and confused, teary and emotional, weepy and sad, exuberant one minute only to be overwhelmed the next . Oh, and did I mention the hot/cold? The hot flashes? The night sweats? The tossing and turning at night? The insomnia?
Unfortunately this is all normal.
It will pass, but you need to give it time.
Now, nobody needs to go into what is called surgical menopause when losing both ovaries (like I did at age 45). I had not entered pre menopause yet so my surgeon put me on a hormone patch the day of surgery (that night), as he thought I had enough to deal with already. And since a patch is certainly not as good as your own hormones that you produce , I still got onto the roller coaster!
Ask yourselves and ask your doctor whether a hormone patch is right for you.
And you should also ask your doc for a hormone panel when it's your time for your follow up- I never got one since I was on said patch, but if you have lots of menopause signs (see above) then a temporary hormone med may be for you in the interim.
Sending you lots of healing thoughts today!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 21-Jun 27,2021
again, sweeties,
Jenni2000 mentioned passing a dark blood clot and wondered whether this was normal.
I am glad you called your doc and would like to know what they said, please post this here, sweetie!
I think you are probably ok, since a little bit of bleeding is normal right now, especially if what you see is dark.
Black blood is old blood, so that is reassuring.
Bright red blood comes from a new wound or one that is not healing, so that's not good.
Some clots or stitches are normal, but do monitor what you pass and call your doc if you feel uneasy!
I have dug around and came up with this info that I hope is informative for everyone:
Following a hysterectomy, you can experience some vaginal bleeding or spotting for several weeks. While either can be normal, they can also be a sign that you are doing too much too soon.
All wounds and incisions must heal, including internal ones such as those involving the vaginal cuff. As part of the healing process, new tissue forms to close incisions and replace dissolving stitches. During the process, some bleeding can occur as the new skin tissue forms. If you put extensive pressure or strain on those areas, you could cause the healing tissues to pull around the stitches and even tear. As a result, you could see more bleeding and even experience pain.
In the initial stages, you can have more consistent bleeding as less area is healed. As long as it is not bright red and filling a pad an hour, it is usually okay. This type of bleeding should slowly decrease until you no longer see definite evidence of blood on a consistent basis.
After the first couple weeks, when you've stopped bleeding consistently, you may experience spotting. This is often pinker in color and leaves only spots on your pad or toilet tissue. The amount of blood can vary, but a panty liner should be sufficient.
Spotting can increase around week four as internal stitches dissolve and healing tissues take over. You may also spot more if you begin to overdo it. If spotting turns back into bleeding, you need to touch base with your doctor. It may be a sign that you have torn some tissues.
Please- as always, better safe than sorry!
Call your doc, and be persistent, especially when on a weekend!
You deserve to be taken seriously and get answers.
