8 weeks post hysterectomy and still not cleared

This recovery has been a wild ride. Infection at week two. Non stop spotting. Doctors appointments every week or two. An er visit for a lot of bleeding. Today I had an 8 week check to see if I was healing and she said I’m healing abnormally slow. She said to wait 4 more weeks! That will put me at 3 months post op. I’m so frustrated. I was expecting 2 more weeks. Not 4! Has anyone else taken this long to be cleared? She said if I had sex it would most likely tear the top because it’s so weak still. Mentioned I still have a stitch in there too and did not want to remove it.

6-8 weeks is just an average time for healing...there are lots of women on here that have had to wait longer. the last thing you would want it for your vaginal cuff to tear!

I'm sure it's discouraging, but we don't all heal at the same rate. You'll get there eventually. Meanwhile, maybe you could ask your doctor about using vaginal estrogen cream, as it can help promote healing. Just a thought!

I didn’t know about the cream. I wish I did because I would have asked about it. I don’t see her again for 4 weeks and I’m sure hoping I’ll be healed by then.

While it may be disappointing/frustrating, 4 weeks extra is better than a cuff tear indeed.

Always try to remember the reason, that might help

It might be worth calling to see if she will call in a prescription for you.

Re: 8 weeks post hysterectomy and still not cleared

My husband and I had a moment of clarity and we think my recovery is being hindered by my calorie counting. Three weeks before surgery I had started trying to lose weight and I was intermittent fasting and counting calories. I stopped for the two weeks after surgery and resumed like normal. I’ve been eating from 1200-1400 daily which is well below what MyFitnessPal said I need to lose.

Today I started upping it by about 500. Hoping that will help. Not sure if I should just eat that or even more. I think I can have just over 2000 to maintain my weight. Any tips or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

“Dieting “ or restricting yourself post surgery is probably not a good idea.

The only thing you should worry is to eat lean protein, and whole foods (not processed including beverages) in reasonable amount.

Bodies need a lot more surgery as recovery burns a lot of energy

Re: 8 weeks post hysterectomy and still not cleared

I saw one thing that said 15-20 calories per pound after surgery but that would put me at 3000 a day on the low end and I don’t want to gain! 2000 is a lot of food as it is but I’m going to try that and hope to god it works.
