Decisions.. Tentatively Laproscopic early March

Sorry, little long. I'm 47 with extensive spine problems (hence the creative screen name) & am on SS Disability (and Meficare) for extensive systemic arthritis, back/neck/knee/multiple joint issues & surgeries.

Monthly cramps make my back pain more excruciating. 10 yr ago I had my tubes tied & rt ovary removed (chronic lower rt abdominal pain, couldn't find cause, so I agreed to oopherectomy) . Never had that pain again & easy surgery.

Until now I've managed cramps by being on the pill 365 days a year, which I've never liked. The tubal was done so I could go off the pill only for cramps issues as my back issues worsened (light endometriosis found 10 yr ago too). Since I'm in Medicare for being disabled they have now said birth control will cost me twice as much ($40/mo). Although Medicare is for Seniors it's also for disabled on SS Disability. I've argued on 2 different health issues that senior rules can't apply to me, I keep loosing (and it's a high quality Medicare Advantage plan).

My gyne has said we can do a hysterectomy. It'll alleviate any uterus based back pain and he doesn't know if endometriosis has continued.

I think my goal is to keep the remaining ovary though I'm not sure it's worth it given my age and proximity to possible menopause.

Any thoughts or words of advice?

Re: Decisions.. Tentatively Laproscopic early March

I'm keeping one if mine. I'm 38 & don't want to go thru menopause yet or be on HRT. I also had my tubes tied 8 yrs ago & that's when all my problems w/Endo started! Never heard of anyone with the same problem!

Response to "spine"

We are same age (47) and I just had Total Abdominal Hyst and they left the healthy ovary. If they can leave an ovary they say that's always best so you don't go right in to menopause. I believe you will get a lot of relief with the hysterectomy although you didn't really mention if they saw fibroids or what the issue is besides bad cramps and back pain. My back pain was absolutely relieved with hysterectomy but I had 15cm fibroid taking up all the space and sitting against lower back. I pray all the best for you! Be blessed!! Be at peace.
