Re: Colonoscopy - I did it!

RE:colonoscopy--I did it.
Super major phobia entire life, well at 68 I did it, first time.
I was lucky, 12 polyps all benign. I was very lucky,
it was non-traumatic, once I decided to go ahead with it.
My phobia was such that I would have preferred having a second mastectomy (DCIS for first at 55).
(anyone else out there, super phobic? go do it!)

Re: Colonoscopy - I did it!

It was because of my colonoscopy in November that led me to have a hysterectomy. I had an MRI after the colonoscopy showed possible Crohn's, and the MRI not only confirmed issues with my colon but ovarian masses, which led me to my GYN and a sonogram. That showed fibroids on my uterus (one of which was 9cm). They referred me to a GYN oncologist, and now I'm uterus- and ovary-free. Luckily, the fibroids were benign.

The worst part of the colonoscopy is the prep and the restrictive diet I had to follow for three days. When I saw I wasn't supposed to eat raw fruit or vegetables, nuts, seeds, and corn, I wondered what the hell I was going to eat. I'm vegan! I try to eat a lot of fruits, veg and nuts. Take off the day before and the day of your procedure. A clear liquid diet (day before) will have you feeling run down. And the bowel prep stuff was the WORST. I ended up puking both times I drank it. (Note to self: Make sure you have Dulcolax on hand for your next colonoscopy.) They do IV sedation for the procedure, so that was painless.
