Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 01-Jun 07,2020
I am 2 days post op and got to come home last night. I started alternating Motrin 800mg with the pain meds and have found that I feel so much better adding the Motrin in. I feel a lot less pain and can move a lot easier after taking the Motrin. I know that pain meds cause constipation but I’m actually experiencing the opposite and have diarrhea instead. I was taking a probiotic before surgery since I knew I would be taking a lot of antibiotics before and during surgery and started taking them again this morning. I hope it helps. Also, I spoke with the surgeon before I left the hospital and he said that when he got inside of me I had extensive endometriosis on my ovaries, bowel, bladder, ureters, and the peritoneum. I was never diagnosed with endometriosis before and I’m wondering if all my pain related issues that we thought were the fibroids was actually the undiagnosed endometriosis. I haven’t done a lot of research on endo since I didn’t even know I had it. I think today I will go through some endo information to get a better understanding of it. For those of you ladies getting ready for surgery this week, good luck and I’ll be praying for all of you!

June 1 I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy for my 20cm fibroid.
My surgeon was a star and managed to keep my vertical incision under my bellybutton so recovery should be less intense than I planned for. My uterus containing the fibroid was about the size of a human adult head, and my surgeon said she was able to skip the gym after wrestling with it.
I got home last night and am managing pain with Tylenol and naproxen so far. I've been able to walk a little and pee, and can get out of bed with a little help as my bed is much lower than the hospital bed, but it's going well.
Looking forward to lots of improvement in the weeks to come!

2 days post op. Feeling great.
Hello
My laprscopic total hysterectomy with everything removed was 2 days ago. I am 64, overweight with mobility issues. My original diagnosis showed stage 1 uterine cancer. After being cancelled due to covid I had a temporary iud in place to slow the growth. I was so scared and found peace in the helpful preop advice from the hyster sisters. I meditated all week prior to keep me calm with only a few meltdowns. When it was time to go into the OR, my husband said my eyes showed sheer terror, which upset him. once inside the surgeon and anethesiest was calming me down Until I started hyperventilating. They must have turned the oxygen up and I don't remember another thing until I was back in my room. 4 hours in surgery and 2 hours in recovery. I have no pain just a little tenderness. The surgeon came to see me and told me it was a text book case and everything went perfectly. During the night I was checked hourly. BP fine, very little discharge, minimal pain. Apart from lack of sleep because of all the Interruptions I felt good. They took the catheter out at 10 on day 1 and I was able to pee within the hour. With my walker I was able to walk easily around the ward. I was able to sit & eat with no nausea or vomiting. So ticked all the recovery boxes and was allowed home less than 24 hours later. I can't believe how easy it has been. Doing all the right things at home to heal & recover. Your support help me so much. Thank you.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 01-Jun 07,2020
Well, day 4 post op here and I have to say that I’m feeling much better! Went and saw the surgeon unexpectedly yesterday because I felt like I was getting a yeast infection from all the pre-op antibiotics (despite probiotic use). He Did a culture and prescribed some meds and also gave me a diuretic because he said I had A LOT of swelling (in my back, legs, ankles, feet)...I felt tight! After taking the diuretic, I feel like a whole new person! I finally feel like I’m moving in the right direction with my recovery! I was finally able to sleep in my bed vs the recliner last night and it felt amazing! I was struggling trying to get into and out of the bed before and the pain just wasn’t worth it! My hubby got me a step stool next to the bed with a tall handle and it really made a huge difference! I think just being able to sleep for a few hours in my own bed kind of rejuvenated me. I am noticing some itching around my incision sites this morning but no redness, warmth, or pain. The glue is still intact and the bruising is starting to fade around them. I will focus on rest today and really try not to overdo it with this new found energy I have today! I hope others are doing well in their own recoveries!

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 01-Jun 07,2020
Hi all! My hysterectomy was yesterday morning, I went home last night around 8:30. The catheter made a total mess of my bladder & most of my pain Is still there. Even so, I was ok until I got in the van to leave the hospital. The drive home made my pain SPIKE (our roads are awful & riddled with potholes) and I have not been able to get it totally under control since. But I am taking my meds as prescribed & following all instructions. I’d put my pain level as of this morning at 8/10. I’m hoping when I check in again tonight that it will be better. I’m scared to ask the dr about trying a different pain med bc he’s already told me that he won’t give me anything but 3 days of Norco, plus the 5 days of toradol nasal spray. Neither is working very well for me so far.
And I legit still have to sit for awhile with the faucet running in order to pee, every time. Pretty sure this is still swelling from that &@$!ing catheter!
Anyway I wish us all luck in our recoveries today! <3 We can do it!

Sorry to here that you can’t get your pain under control! There is nothing worse than chasing the pain! Check with your Dr and see if you can add in a NSAID in between your pain med doses to try and get it under control. It will also help with inflammation and swelling. Once I added in 800mg Motrin, I noticed a huge improvement in my pain. I hope you find some relief soon!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 01-Jun 07,2020
Hi! I had my hysterectomy yesterday (6/4) morning and left the hospital around 6:00 pm. I had my uterus and tubes removed. Thankfully, my husband was able to be with me at the hospital. When I got home, I had soup that my mother made and went to bed. I’m taking Percocet and ibuprofen. I realized that the best way for me to stay on schedule with my meds is to set my timer on my watch for 4 hours. Trying to keep the times in my head wasn’t working. Even though I don’t feel good, I don’t feel bad either so I really have to remind myself not to do anything. My body needs to heal and I don’t need to mess around and set myself back. I did make some slight movement earlier today and I felt a small pull on my belly button stitch. It wasn’t bothering me before but now it is. Needless to say, I am not happy about that one bit. I was given a belly band and that’s helping and I got extra hospital underwear, which is a must have in my book! I can take a shower today but I’m a little nervous about a shower. I might wait until tomorrow. Either way, I won’t do it without my husband’s help. (He will have a fit if I attempt it on my own.) I’m hoping for a BM soon. The Smooth Move tea should help move things along. I am happy to finally be on the recovery side. I received final confirmation I was doing the right thing when, the night before my surgery, I started bleeding AGAIN. No amount of BC was going to stop my bleeding or get rid of my fibroids. I made the right decision!

That is so good to hear. I also am having a very similar easy recovery. I feel so much empathy for those having a more difficult time because I really expected the worst and was expected to be in the hospital a minimum of 3 days. I ticked all the milestones within an hour or having the catheter out. Yes I also had the stinging for the first couple of Pees. I still feel really good with very little of anything pain, gas, incisions, no bloating. I can't believe how normal I feel. I am assessing what I have done that has made this recovery easier for me that may help others. Don't want to jump the gun because I am only day 3 and there could still be changes. Keep up your great progress.

Hi everyone! I had my surgery yesterday. I busted out of the hospital about 1000 this morning. Seems like everything went fast. I got to my room about 1115 yesterday. Starting drinking water and diet sprite at 1230....catheter out at 5pm and I was up walking afterwards. Ate solid food for dinner last night. It was so good to eat again lol. I was able to pee and pass gas by 10pm last night. My nurses were very impressed. Pain has been bearable. My BP has been running low and blood sugar was behaving while I was there. They threatened me with insulin....i didn't want to do that. Lol. I got home and took a shower, got my meds and been sleeping on and off this afternoon. I made a promise to myself to take it easy and slow down a bit. I hope I can stick to it. Good luck everyone. Not all bad so far. I'll be honest, my heating pad is my best friend right now.
