March hysterectomy for Posterior Fibroid causing Pain?

I'm scheduled for THL march 15 for fibroids. 12 week uterus. Dr. thinks posterior fibroid/s are pushing against coccyx, colon, bladder. I'm older than most. 68 and haven't had a period for 18 years. My symptoms are tailbone pain sitting, lower back pain, hip pain, gas, bloating, pain when I have to poop.

Re: Hysterectomy for Posterior Fibroid causing Pain?

Hi Mysterypain to HysterSisters!

I am so glad you found this site.

While my numerous small fibroids (2 cm and smaller) and my one very large complex ovarian cyst (12x9x11 cm) did not cause me pain, there are numerous women who do experience pain with fibroids. Hopefully one who has this experience will see this post and respond.

In the meantime, here are articles on fibroids that may provide information:
Fibroid Symptoms
What Are the Different Types of Uterine Fibroids?
5 Surprising Facts about Fibroids

These are from an extensive library on Uterine Fibroids Articles which you are welcome to peruse.

Just know that you are not alone in this. We will be by your side throughout this process.

Re: Hysterectomy for Posterior Fibroid causing Pain?

Hello,

It's definitely possible that fibroids are causing the pain. I too had double digit fibroids (and a large ovarian cyst). I thought I was developing sciatica, but after my surgery it was clear all that stuff inside had been the culprit. I even was able to breath more deeply because I had fibroids on the outside that were pushing on all kinds of other organs. Hopefully, this surgery will bring you relief too. One thing I did notice (and it may or may. not be the same for you) was that in the first couple of months after surgery, I would sometimes get not pain, but more of a pins and needles feeling around the tailbone area if I sat in one position for a long time. But that was just in the beginning. As with so many things relating to this type of surgery, time makes a huge difference. So even if in the beginning you still have some discomfort, you may very well find yourself feeling much better. weeks or months down the road. I'm 8 years post-op and except for the fact that I haven't had a period in that time (I was pre-menopausal when I had mine), I often forget I even had one.

I wish you well and a speedy recovery.

March hysterectomy for Posterior Fibroid causing Pain?

and greetings from another fellow fibroid sister!
My main symptoms were urinary in nature, resulting from a grapefruit sized fibroid pressing on my bladder; I also had hemorrhoidal bleeding from a smaller one pressing on my ileac vein - the one that comes out of the small intestine - and increased gas and bloating, which my family doctor attributed to my enlarged uterus pressing on my stomach. After my surgery, I found that I no longer had to plan my life around "where's the bathroom," and I could eat a normally sized meal without worries of blowing up like a balloon, and I think that you'll realize similar benefits after your surgery. Wishing you all the best for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!

Some days are better than others but you are helping convince me to accept that the surgery will alleviate these awful symptoms. Thank you.
