Hysterectomy for adenomyosis and endo on 9/18

Hello,

I'm scheduled to have my hysterctomy on 9/18 for adenomyosis and stage 3 endometriosis. My procedure will be a LAVH with a possible BSO depending on the condition of my ovaries. I had surgery on 3/6/15 to remove pockets of adenomyosis and endo. The endo was on my right kidney, ovaries, behind my uterus, and on my colon. I had a MRI done to confirm the adenomyosis was now diffused throughout so my surgeon has recommended a LAVH.

I'm aware that a hysterctomy at 25 sounds utterly insane but I'm no longer able to conceive and have had 7 surgeries to try and control my endo. My fiancé and I are open to adoption and my sister has graciously volunteered to be our surrogate if we choose to go that route so my options to have children aren't completely cut off.

I'm posting to be judged by older women. Last time I posted, I was severely judged but now I really need the support and advice fromy others who have walked a similar path. What was recovery like? Did you bleed for a long time post op? I know everyone is different (I work for a orthopedic surgeon) but when did you go back to work? What's the best thing to eat post op?

It would be nice to talk to ladies around my age who have gone through this without torn apart by everyone. Please any advice would be great and very much appreciated.

Re: Hysterectomy for adenomyosis and endo on 9/18

I'm so sorry you felt like you were judged the last time you posted. I'm 53, so I'm much, much older than you, but I can attest to the pain and excessive bleeding caused by adenomyosis, and I can assure you, you will feel so much better once you get this taken care of.

At your age, I am glad you have your sister who has volunteered to be a surrogate, as I'm sure you would love the option to have children. I'm so sorry you are going through this at such a young age. Hugs to you.

My adenomyosis didn't start showing symptoms until my late 30's; by age 47, it was excruciating. By early 50's, it was debilitating, not to mention enormous blood clots and almost-fainting anemia. So I think you are making the right decision.

I woke up from surgery feeling better than I had felt in many years. My recovery was a breeze. It was the most peaceful 6 weeks I could have ever imagined. I look back and feel like it was almost an out-of-body experience, as if I was floating above my formerly in-pain self, as a new person.

I kept my ovaries and cervix, which I hope you'll be able to do (can't do that with LAVH, only with laparoscopic). At such a young age, I hope you'll look into saving as much as possible. Remember, you can always take stuff out later....but you cannot put it back. Even at my advanced age, I opted to keep my cervix & ovaries.
