Bikini Incision and other ? from my Pre-op.

Hi Ladies!
I feel like a total idiot but I forgot to ask my dr. more about the bikini incision. She made it sound like a good thing so i wasn't too worried about it but now I'm curious.

I was wondering where they place that incision, and will it be easier than the verticle to recovery from or are they all about the same?

My pre-op went really well. I've been seeing this doc. for over 5 years now and she is the one that did my laps. and dx my Endo.
She told me that i'll do really well with the surgery, and really reassured me and gave me a big hug at the end.

I got out of the enima but have to do the phospho soda and clear liquids the day before my surgery. She said it was up to me on which bowel prep method to choose. Is one better or easier than the other or are they both equally yucky?

Thanks sisters!! your information and experience is amazing and thanks to all of you I feel like I'm Ready to have this surgery!

It's important to remember that no matter whether you have a vertical or horizontal incision no muscles are cut (in most instances). They are spread apart with retractors. They are sore after. I've never had a vertical incision, just the bikini for this surgery. It really doesn't take that long for the insicion to heal and it fades over time.

It was the internal soreness that lasted for a longer period of time. As long as 6 months after I had some tenderness.

Best wishes!

Usually they cut just above the pubic bone. No bones is cut of course, and no muscles either. 5 inch cut from left to right , or maybe a little bigger if you have a big uterus.
The vertical is more unslightly, but some of us don't have a choice, although i hear the vertical is quicker to recovery with, because you don't have that flap of skin/fat over your scar for bikini cut.

Bikini Incision and other ? from my Pre-op.

Hi
My incision is just above the hairline and under the roll of flab....Does that help!! I would think, and this is a thought, not based on fact, that a vertical one would be easier to pop open than a horizontal one....

As for bowel prep, you said it, they are both yucky. I did the Phospho Soda one, and it was not too much fun, but I did the enema last year....If I had a choice now, I think I would personally pick the Phospho soda one. As was said on ER last night, it is an "outgoing" only kinda thing....

Hugs
Kat

Bikini Incision and other ? from my Pre-op.

I had a c-sec with my first child 14 yrs ago. My doc said that she would go back in that scar and do the TAH. She said I probably would recover a little faster than with a vertical scar. She didn't mention anything about cleaning my bowels out the night before Yikes!! Is this necesary, or will they give me an enema in the holding room in the hospital on the morn of surgery? Does anyone know?

If you haven't been told to do a bowel prep, then DON'T. There is a possibility of having something the morning of surgery, but not necessarily. Not every DR has their patients do a bowel prep, and you risk complications by doing it without specific instructions. If you think someone may have forgotten to tell you, call and ask.

Best wishes.
