Hot And Cold

Good Morning

I am about 2 1/2 weeks post op, TAH/BOS and have been feeling very well since the day I came home. I did have some discomfort the first few days, have been driving my daughter to school since Monday and have been doing some housework (no lifting!!!)
so all in all, I am doing well. I had my staples out 7 days after surgery. I go for my 3 week check up next Friday.

The only question I had was the last few days I have been having hot and cold flashes, one minute I am hot and have to take my sheets off and the next minute I am cold, at nighttime, especially I wake up sweating and then shivering. Is this just my body adjusting to No Horomones? I did have some hot flashes before my hysterectomy, but not like this. I don't know if I will be going on HRT, since there is Breast Cancer in my family.

I am 47 years old.

Thanks.

Diane

Hot And Cold

Diane,
I had the hot/cold flashes for awhile after my hyst. I would break out in a dripping sweat which would than be followed by a teeth chattering coldness. For me, it did get better over time, but I have been using hrt.

There's some good articles about breast cancer and hrt and assessing your risk at www.hormonejungle.com

Hot And Cold

Hi Diane! It sounds like your body has used up its stored estrogen reserves and you are starting to have hot flashes and night sweats. Other symptoms to watch out for include mood swings, vaginal dryness (and eventually vaginal and urethral atrophy, which can lead to urinary incontinence) and headaches among others.

You might want to read up on some of the articles at the main hormone jungle page, and also visit the No-Hormone Desert Oasis forum to read about ideas for dealing with these symptoms if you decide not to use HRT.

Have you discussed your concerns and your family history as well as these recent symptoms with your DR? What does he/she say?
s,
-Linda
