OUTRAGEOUS Doctor visit

Gotta share this. I have been having numerous problems with heavy bleeding, cramping, etc for a while. After procrastinating at least a year, I went to this doctor (his partner had been recommended). My original ob/gyn retired, his replacement left town, and my records (?) who knows where?? So, I go to this doctor who is checking me out and he asks "Did you bring your cervix today? I can't seem to find it!!" I did not go back. Somehow that was not reassuring. It took me 6 months to get in to see this other doctor that was highly recommended and after talking with me and examining, she tells me I need a hysterectomy (TAH/BSO). I have a mass that the other doc (aside from not finding my cervix easily) did not find and she finds it by palpitation!! Now, I wait until 11/1 and hope that this hasn't been cooking something nasty over the last six months!
I am a firm believer in being empowered, learning and making educated decisions, but I am afraid I don't have too much tolerance for incompetence! I am trying to catch up rapidly regarding surgery, HRT and recovery.

OUTRAGEOUS Doctor visit

My Doc's had always had a tough time finding my cervix. My uterus had always been really tipped and it's was tough to get in there to see it. After my tumor had grown it became next to impossible to find the darn thing. Okay so I became so attached to my cervix I decided to keep it : )

Have you had an ultra-sound to check things out? They're not 100% accurate but can pretty well determine size etc. My 5 U-sounds as well as 3 doc's diagnosed me with really large uterine fibriods. Went from 12 week uterus to 18+ week in a year. Surgery & path report showed my uterus was actually flat as a pancake and my fibroids were a single 2 1/4 lb ovarian fibroma.

Education is so important : ) This board and the sisters are a great source for support!

Good Luck,

Hi, Paigee.
They did an ultrasound. I have an ovarian tumor about 10cm. No other doctor had trouble finding by cervix - and I want to keep that, too. Thanks for the reply. How are you doing with your recovery? Lots of support?

My recovery has been practically painless : ) A little uncomfortable and a little sore for the 1st week after surgery. The worst for me was waiting for the bowels to kick in -- day 13 I think! Today was my 1st day back at work and aside from being a little tired no aches or pains to speak of.

What was amazing to me is everyday post-op I'd feel 100% better than I did the day before. The human body is truly an incredible machine.

Hormonally I'm doing great so far. Doc started me on 2mg of Etrace the day after surgery. PMS free this month for the 1st time in years.

The next few weeks will pass by quickly and as I'm sure you've read before...

The waiting is the worst part.
