Pre Operations Steps

Can anyone help me relax and know the basics once I enter
the hospital until the OR entry. I am quite anxious but
feeling like my prayers will be answered. I have 3 fibroid,
one the size of small orange. The fibroids have caused me
to be severely anemic but improved now and I am hoping not
to have a transfusion. Tips for my entry to the hospital
will be greatly appreciated. Think of me 10/17/00 8:00 am.

Pre Operations Steps

Hi- I would assume that every hospital is different, but for me I was taken to a room where everyone who was to have surgery that day was sitting, and I was told to go change into my gown and then sit in that room until called. It was kinda weird sitting in a large room with others in gowns, but my family was allowed to sit in there with me, so that was okay. I was then taken to pre-op where I got up on a gurney and had all my vitals taken and if you can remember to shave your pubic area, then they won't have to do it- I definitely preferred to do it myself the day before. Then, the anesthesiologist nurse came in to give me something to relax and instantly I was out. The next thing I knew I was in post-op feeling pretty good. I was really anxious about the anesthesia, but it was so quick I didn't have time to get scared. I hope everything goes well with you!! Christi

Pre Operations Steps

Hi, I also had surgery for fibroids, the largest one being bigger than a grapefruit. I was taken into an area with many patient "rooms" (a bed, some equipment, and curtains to separate the rooms), put on the hospital gown and put my street clothes into a bag. My husband was with me the whole time along with the other crazy people in my life who decided to show up at 5:30 AM. The nurse was wonderful. She took my vitals, drew some blood for last minute tests, inserted the thing my IV would be hooked up to (I don't know the technical name for it, sorry). The anesthesiologist came by to introduce herself and asked A LOT of questions. She then explained exactly what she'd be doing. Finally my doctor came by and after that everything gets fuzzy. I don't remember taking the anesthesia or being wheeled out of the little room.

I hope that helps!
