Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

Hi guys,

just had a call from the gyn ward at my hospital.

I am schedule for surgery on Fri 13th May - can you believe that date?? OMG I am totally freaking out now! I'm petrified.

They're going to have to sedate me as soon as I get there, either that or strap me to the bed otherwise I can't see how I'll cope!

I feel sick. Got to go in for pre-op assessment on Tue 10th May at 11.30 and I'm also still waiting for my MRI scan which should be sometime before I go in.

I'm booked in for a laparoscopy BUT depending on what they find it could be removal of cyst and possibly 1 or both ovaries, worse case, a hysterectomy.

I have never been so scared in all my life.

Rowdy.

Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

Hi rowdy,
Please try not to be scared, i know its easier said than done tho, iv been there ! The waiting for your op is the worst part honestly.
I hope you have the least invasive treatment , but if you do have to have the hysterectomy then believe me, its not as bad as you think.
I'm 3 1/2 post op from my lavh and i feel great, i haven't had any pain killers since day 10, and that was only paracetomol !
I expected the pain to be sooo much worse than it was, in fact my periods were worse.
Hope all goes well for you , you never know we may end up bumping into each other in sunny blackpool ! im on a hen do in august up there.
Anyway, take care, i hope this post has helped you. this site has been a great source of info and support to me , i hope its the same for you. Good luck with everything , mikkimeme x

Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

I know how you feel. Feeling the same way here. Whats helped me a lot is reading all the posts from all the posters that have been there done that. Almost all have said the anxiety before surgery is worse then the surgery itself.

My emotions have been a roller coaster.....going from whoopi the big day is coming I'm getting this done and over..... no more painful periods WHOOPI!! To Oh My God!! I don't want to do this.

Then I'm feeling guilty because I'm feeling sorry for myself... I mean it could be a whole lot worse.

Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

Hugs to you Rowdy.

I think I know how you are feeling. My LSH is for Tue May 10th. Last night I woke up from some pain and I don't know why but I really started to worry about the surgery. Just started to feel anxious and scared. So I'm right there with you on that.
Here's something to help you with your Friday 13th date. I have many foreign students working for me. And we were all laughing last night about Friday the 13th. I know here and in some places it is thought of as unlucky. But in other countries it's a very lucky day. And still in other's it's not 13 but some other number that has to do with good or bad luck. One of my Chinese students said that his village has a history of a battle where they used Friday 13th to win the day. For them it is the best of Good Luck!
So go out and eat some Chinese food, have Chinese beer and
toast yourself some good luck.

I know you and I will do fine.
Best Wishes for a speedy recovery....

Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

Rowdy,
I know the feeling. I felt like I had so much to do to get ready especially with the kid and dealing with his school stuff. I felt I had to orchatrat everything while I was in the hospital. Lo and behold everyone survived my anxiety.

But the closer the date came the more calm I became (probably because I felt horrible). The night before I was weepy. The morning of the surgery I felt like I was on my way to the death chamber. The car ride was very quiet. Once I got to the hospital and had to wait 2 hrs. before they took me back I was ready- get it done.
Now 7 months later, it seems it never happened. Good Luck to you!!!! You will be fine. Dottie

I know exactly how you feel (been there).
ask for somthing that you can pick up now at your pharmacy.
eg, somthing for your nerves. - to calm you down -, that can just be called through as a perscription for you to get now, and take the day of sergery.

have you considered seeing you DR - general practioner.
I had concernes, and i had a few perscriptions in my file wating incase i needed them. alternative pain meds, ect
- Im breast feeding my baby - and my breast milk disapeared after my sergery. (my GP warned me of this and he had a perscription ready to be called through to the pharmacy.)

problem averted! and having an extra suppily of demerol was nice (I call it mental insurance - peace of mind)

I know you will be just fine, keep you eye on the goal.
ie better health, and lifestyle (in my case).
I hope you manage to get somthing to help you relax, its a difficult time. but we are all here for you.
take care..

My surgery is May 13th as well.

I'm scheduled to have a Laparotomy and hernia repair on 5/13/05. I had a TAH on 1/15/03 took everything but the left ovary, which now has a large mass on it, I'm praying it's benign. I took the BRCA test, since I have a strong family history of breast & ovarian cancer, so if I've inherited this gene he'll remove my ovary. I guess I'll have to go on hormone therapy medicine, not looking forward to that.

Rowdy, god doesn't put anything on us that we can't handle. You are in my prayers keep your head up.

Got Surgery Date - So Scared!!

Mist, luckily my doc has already prescribed me 5mg Diazepam - only 20 tablets.

Done quite well so far, had them 2 weeks and only used 3.

I had one as soon as I got home from work today to calm me down.

Thanks to all of you for your support.

This time in 2 weeks the surgery will have been done and (hopefully) I will be fast asleep, oblivious to any pain and not vomitting!

I'll be very up and down until then.

Rowdy.
