Hello Noga! I went to my pre-op (actually it was a pre-op pre-op cuz I still have to go to another one on the 31st) loaded with a huge list of questions. Some that I asked that might not be on the list here were:
Anti-nausea and pain medication to be given to me BEFORE I come out of anesthesia. I had surgery before and woke up sicker than heck and in pain. It doesn't have to be that way. I asked for the meds in advance and this way I wake up groggy, but not sick and not in pain, and they aren't playing catch-up later.
I asked if there was a bowel prep (yes for me) and what kind of bowel prep. What time of day the day before do I start it? I needed to know this because if I was going to be drinking gallons of stuff all day, I really should be taking the day off work.
I lucked out with an enema (if you could call it lucky, lol!) the evening before.
I am having a TLH (total laparoscopic, uterus complete with cervix, keeping ovaries if possible), so I was concerned with vag length and support and asked about this. She explained that they have a technique that retains the maximum vag length and that she sutures ligaments to help support the vag/bladder area.
I am keeping my ovaries if possible (they are covered in cysts) but they can shut down for a bit after surgery. I asked her if they caused me problems if she would help me out with HRT until they woke up again and she said yes.
I asked how long I would be in the hospital, what kind of followup appointments would I be doing, and when I would be able to return to work (4 weeks for my technical writer job) and when could I resume fun stuff with DH
I don't know what type of surgery you are having as I might have more questions you could ask depending on that.
Good luck to you!
