Just had my hysteroscopy done
Hi all,
I just got my hysteroscopy done today fully awake. I was not given any sedatives or anesthesia. I took 400 MG ADVIL 1 hour prior to the procedure. They told me it was easier than an HSG and I did not need anything else. NOT!
They gave me a heat pad to keep on my stomach. The test was not a piece of cake but I cannot say that it was intolerable. It was like a very yucky and painful period cramps that lasted more than 10 minutes. They also removed a small polyp from m uterus which surprisingly did not hurt. I was in such pain that I did not even see the images on the monitor and had my eyes shut! Once it was over, I felt some itching inside which they said was from the fluid they let inside me. The itching subsided in 1 hour or so. There was spotting and I took the rest of the day easy. There was no pain once the procedure was over but while I was going on I kept asking myself when it will end.
I don't mean to scare anyone here. But I was searching up posts before my procedure before I had mine so I now want to give back to you by sharing my experience. Hope that helps. I feel for all of us for having to go through this. Kudos to us for hanging in thee. Good luck!

Hi staying_positiv
I am sorry your hysteroscopy was so painful. I have read similar posts from other women. You are not alone. Rest and recover.

Re: Just had my hysteroscopy done
I was going to opt for the hysteroscopy but found out they weren't going to give me anything. I then decided on the hystersonogram and I barely knew what they were doing. Felt like getting a pap smear just because of the speculum they used.
Hope you are feeling better.

Re: Just had my hysteroscopy done
{{{hugs}}} to you!
Can't imagine being awake. They used anesthesia for me.
The night before my hysteroscopy they gave me a drug called misoprostol to make sure they could get thru the cervix. (previous try week or two before they couldn't get thru to do d&c / hysteroscopy)
The misoprostol caused more pain than I've ever had in my life including my DVH.
Please take good care of yourself!

Re: Just had my hysteroscopy done
I had to have a hystersonogram last Tuesday to investigate some symptoms I have been having. I discovered the hard way that after my endometrial ablation 18 months ago that I had some uterine adhesions (the walls are grown together). When they started injecting the fluid through the cervical catheter I started yelling out in pain. I felt like I was being ripped apart! They finished as fast as they could but by then I had already reached my threshold and started going into shock. My BP dropped and I almost fainted many times. They had to put me on a heart monitor and IV and watch me for about an hour before I could even stand. It was quite traumatizing to say the least. The nurse from my DR said they've never had anyone react that way, it must have been the adhesions. I have an appointment to discuss the procedure with my DR on Friday and the nurse mentioned that he's going to offer a hysterectomy to remove to source of my problems. I'm nervous but it's not like I need it anymore and I'm better off having the surgery at a younger age then waiting for worse problems.
