TAH: Sick before surgery

I am scheduled for a TAH tomorrow, and I now have a cold. I don't feel bad but I have mucus in the back of my throat. I'm hoping It is gone by the morning. I was told if I am sick that they will send me home. It will really stink because I have hotel arrangements for my mom to be with me and we are driving 2 hrs away. Any one else experience this?

Good luck. Hopefully you will feel better. I had this happen before a surgery. I was not feeling great but when they took my temperature it was 102. They called my doc and he had me put in the hospital for IV antibiotics. Then I had the surgery a few days later. It was a real pain in the butt. Hopefully with a slight cold, you will be fine. I had a terrible cold just prior to surgery, (started three days before) but I was intubated during surgery and did fine. A belly binder to hold your tummy if you're coughing after might be helpful. I got one from Amazon because hystersisters was out of my size. Best wishes!

I also have a "cold" or just post nasal drip making me cough a lot. My surgery is Thursday and I am nervous about the pain of coughing after surgery. My nurse told me that as long as I am not running a fever or coughing up yucky stuff, the surgery will go on. Hope so, cause the waiting is the hardest part.
