Can someone explain what this is, if I even spelled it right? I see that several of you mention you have had this done and was wandering exactly what it was? Thank ladies.

Rectocele??????
Its a herniation of the posterior (rectal) wall of the vagina.
There are several techniques to repair this; the most common being simply (i use that term loosely) excising the excess fascia of the posterior wall of the vagina.
take care

Rectocele??????
Thanks for your quick reply Diana. This may sound REALLY gross, but when I have a bowel movement (once every three days of so...usually constipated) I sometimes have to apply pressure to my perinium???sp? in order to expell the feces, it almost feels as though it works it's way towards the vaginal instead of "exiting" through the correct hole, if that makes any sense to anyone??? I am probably a freak, has anyone had this similar problem? And if so, will a rectocele fix this problem?

Rectocele??????
Have you mentioned this to your Dr? Your Gyn should be able to diagnose this before your surgery and if necessary repair it during the hysterectomy. The pressure that you apply to the perineum to have a BM is called splinting and the fact that you have to do this may mean you do have a rectocele. Rectoceles are graded by how far they protrude from their normal position and are ususally graded during a vaginal exam where the Dr has you bear down to see how far the area will prolapse. Please call your Dr and mention this to him.

Rectocele??????
You're symptoms sound textbook for a rectocele.
LIke Michelle said, your Dr will be able to diagnosis a prolapse via an internal exam. Just make sure he/she checks you either while bearing down or while standing.
good luck

Thanks for all the replies ladies, I wouldn't have even asked my doctor about it if I hadn't found this website before my surgery. You are all very wonderful!!! Thank you again. I will ask my doc to check it out at my pre-op.
