MS, Avonex, and Hysterectomy

Hi, this is my first post, so I don't know if this topic has been covered before. I apologize if I am repeating.

I have MS (dx'd 2001, but sx since 1970) and take Avonex self-injections on Friday mornings. My surgery is scheduled for next Friday. I posted on an MS Board, called Biogen (maker of the injections), asked my neuro, and still need to speak to my gyn and the hospital about this... do I take my shot or do I skip it?

So far: answers lean toward take it because surgery is stress to the body and that can cause an exacerbation.

My concern: the shots give me fever and chills; will that be an unnecessary complication on the day of surgery?

Has anyone had any experience with this? I will, of course, go by my collective professionals' instructions, but I would like to know what others have experienced while we are all having this discussion.

Thanx!

Hi and to HysterSisters!

I'm sorry you are facing surgery but glad you found us!

I don't personally have an answer for you and I know you will discuss it with your doctor and medical team, but maybe someone here has some experience to share.

If you haven't already, take some time to do some reading and exploring around the site. Checkpoints and Pre-Op Articles are good places to start.

I hope everything goes well for you and I will keep you in my prayers.
