Re: 6 days

I was scared as well. I worried about everything from not waking up to did I get dog food at the store. Everything went fine for me and I'm here 5 days post op feeling pretty darn good. I know the wait is hard, but it is much harder than the actual surgery. It will be over before you know it and you'll do great! Good luck!

Re: 6 days

Thanks. How long were you in the hospital? Do you hurt alot? Is it hard getting back to your daily activities? Full of questions. I hope you continue to get better and thanks for the encouragement.

Re: 6 days

Hang in there, the waiting was worse for me than anything. I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op now and back at work feeling pretty good overall. Everyone heals differently, but keeping a positive attitude and staying on top of your pain meds and enduring you manage your bowels right from the start are key in recovery. I was off narcotic pain meds within a few days, as the pain was very manageable at that point. Be prepared to be tired very easily now. My first day back at work was today and I was happy it was a half day.
Good luck.

Re: 6 days

My surgery was at 9:30, I was in recovery by 11:30 and a room by 12:30. I stayed the night and was home by noon the next day. I'm not going to lie, I was hurting that evening and the next day but it wasn't an excruciating pain. It was more like I was really really sore. Once the catheter came out I had bladder spasms which weren't fun but that didn't last long. Had I been diligent about taking my pain meds I would have felt better. Since being home I've only used vicodin at night, advil is sufficient for the pain(which isn't bad at all now) The hardest part has been my limited mobility. I want to so stuff because I feel pretty good but I know I'm still healing inside and need to take it easy. You'll do great, it really isn't as bad as we work it up to be.

Re: 6 days

Everyone is scared. We all seem to work ourselves up. Don't worry everything turns out fine in the end.

Erack is right about being on top of your meds. I think the worst part for me was the gas. But walking and GasX took care of that.

The first week you find that you need the most help around the house. So if you can get someone to help you, its great. Or someone to check up and do some of the big things for you like laundry. Your job is not to lift things, short walks, and lots of rest.

By the second week you find you can do a lot more things and have a more energy. This will progress thru the six week recovery period.

Its important to listen to your doc restrictions.

Re: 6 days

Thanks girls. I think I am more afraid of going through surgical menopause. It just scares me I guess. I have heard so many horrible things about it, just freaking me out I guess. I went to my doctor and everything is set for Monday. I just cannot believe how nervous I am. Thanks for this site, I have gotten lots of information on pre-op and post-op.
