Post-Op members only: Did you keep your ovaries?

No. One had been removed about 10 years prior, when I had my tubes tied, because it, along with my fallopian tube, were tangled up so bad with endometriosis and scar tissue. Hysterectomy was TAH-O, leaving only vagina and cuff.

Re: If you're post hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

My story is told in my intro, but long story short, the fibroids had everything "stuck" together, so everything had to come out. I think my surgery was supposed to be laparascopic, but the large incision across the base of my belly suggests otherwise. I have an incision in my belly button, one an inch above that, and one near my left hip, it seems.

I guess it's not a bad thing everything's out; there ended up being tumors in my ovaries, which fortunately were benign.

I was able to retain both my ovaries. My dr was relieved and I am glad I wasn't pushed into early menopause. I wasn't looking forward to HRT. The only problem initially was that we had found a few cysts inside the ovaries. My dr said they could have been partly enlarged due to my ovulation schedule. We were just glad they were able to be saved!

Hi. 11 dpo and kept both my ovaries. Dr said I was too young to take them. I will say even before my surgery I have been experiencing menopause symptoms, so I’ll be interested to see what happens now...

Re: If you're post hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I chose to have mine removed. I used to get terrible hormonal migraines every month that would sometimes last up to 3 days. They were debilitating. I also have treatment-resistant depression that was impacted every month by drastic dips in my mood during PMS. I knew if I kept the ovaries I would still have these issues so I decided it was in my best interest to ditch the ovaries when I had my endometriosis-related hysterectomy. I'm 5 years post-op and have not had a single migraine since. My mood is still depressed, but it's steady now. No more monthly dips. And no regrets.
