Going back to work?
Hi. I'm new to the site. Just had a hysterectomy on 1/13/05. It will be 4 weeks this Thursday.
They had to do the surgery through the stomach.
Went to the doctors yesterday, and he still wants to keep a couple of the stiches in. If he were to take them out. He said the cut would open.
When I asked him about going back to work. He asked what I thought.
I don't think I should go back yet with stiches still in the stomach. What if I were to over do it. (What is over doing it?)
I need to let work know if I'm going to go back to work next week. The doctor won't be seeing me again until next Monday.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Andrea

Going back to work?
I am back at work at 5 wks post op. Came back Mon and wish I hadn't. In my humble opinion and opinion only, I would not return to work until you feel up to it. And I dont believe I would return if I still had stitches. You need to relax and heal or you could hurt yourself more.

Going back to work?
I think each of us is different.
I've heard of sisters going back at 3 weeks, and others not going back till 10 or 12 weeks.
My TAH included a pretty textbook recovery. I returned to work after 7 weeks off. I could only work half days for the first two weeks, due to extreme fatigue.
It is surprising just how much this surgery can take out of you. So listen to your body, and if you don't feel ready to go back, then rest another week or two and re evaluate then.

Going back to work?
Andrea,
I waited the full six weeks before going back to work (TAH BSO - vertical incision) and I work at a desk job and my co-workers would not let me lift anything (not even a ream of copy paper) for the next two months!
I have to tell you the first two weeks back I was worn out every afternoon - I would get home and go to bed (not even have dinner) because I was so tired. It was amazing how tired I would get just from sitting at a desk. I even had a chair to put my feet up in the afternoon - my boss would check on me at 2 p.m. and insist that I had my feet up and just read and even said it I wanted to nap that was fine, just shut my door so visitors to the office wouldn't see me.
By the time I was back a month I started to feel better and more active when I got home. It was a long road though.
Take your time if you don't have to go back and maybe even go back part-time to work your way in - I needed to get back to earn some money to pay the bills so I didn't have the choice of 1/2 time, wish I had!
Good luck and take care of yourself!
