Bowel Prep afterall

Just when I thought i'd get to forgo it my Drs nurse called a few min ago and said I do! Ugh! She's said it's called "Go-lightly" has anyone used that? She said I can eat normally Until 11:30am then at 2:30 start the prep. I've never had to use anything like this before. And after the prep is done she said I can drink broth, tea, pop etc so what suggestions do ya'll have for me to drink? Thanks!!

Re: Bowel Prep afterall

Shelly...I too have to do a bowel prep the day before my surgery next week. The go-lightly is not a fun time let me tell you...I've had to do bowel prep 3 times before and hate even the thought of it. Your nurse was correct in what is allowed and when to start your prep. Do not plan on going anywhere the rest of that day as you will need ot be quite close to a rest room. The go-lightly is not pleasant in itself either..bleh

Only suggestions I have, is get some very soft toilet paper and put some diaper wipes near the potty. As for the pop, stay away from colored sodas, stick to 7-up or sprite. No cream in your tea, clear chicken broths, and light colored jellos are usually okay as well (no red ones).

Good luck with your surgery. Mine is next week after Christmas =-(

Re: Bowel Prep afterall

Hi there,
I am two weeks post-op. Yes, the go-litely stuff is awful. I would take a drink of it and then take a drink of 7up. Be sure and have baby wipes! Your bottom will be sore. Don't plan on going anywhere because you will need to be near the toilet.
Best of luck. Wishing you a healthy recovery.

Re: Bowel Prep afterall

Charge up your kindle/iPad, or have a stack of books in the bathroom. I watched Downton Abbey on Netflix during my bowel prep, LOL.

Re: Bowel Prep afterall

I requested magnesium citrate after seeing what my husband went through with what I think was Go-Lightly. Mag citrate was one little bottle of carbonated lemon lime while his was in a big jug and he said it tasted like sulphur and caused him to gag. Same uncomfortable results, flushable wipes were my best friend, but much easier to get down. Doc said that was fine, so you might request that instead. Also, need to eat very light the prior days. You'll be glad you did. Mine went until 7:00 the next morning, but many stop much earlier.
