Has anyone gone out of the country for MRgFUS?

Hi all,

I am 28 years old and I was diagnosed with a fibroid last year. I'm in Louisiana. As of my last ultrasound in january, it's about 7cm at the largest point.

I've been trying to avoid myomectomy, due to the potential complications and the fact that, in a few years - I may end up with another fibroid and the whole mess starts again. While researching, I found out about MRgFUS and i've been keeping an eye on it. I saw that t was recently FDA approved for women who wish to preserve fertility. However, my current gyn is wary of it and said she would prefer I do a myomectomy instead.

I have <Insurance company name removed per website guidelines> and from what I can tell - MRgFUS is not a covered procedure. At this point, i'm trying to decide if going outside of the country is an option. I tried to search the forums, but it looked like most of the threads were older by a few years.

Does anyone have any experience with this procedure or doing this? I see that a few people had it done in france. I also see it approved in Canada.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I just signed up because I'm probably heading for a hysterectomy due to recurring fibroids. You don't have to go out of the country. MRI guided FUS is done in the US - earlier this week I had a telephone consult with UCLA where they do FUS but I wasn't a candidate because one of my fibroids is pedunculated. Note their radiology dept. also offers UAE, which is covered by some insurance plans. Best of luck.
