TAH: how long before ??????

once i have all my stuff removed, how long will it take before i feel the hot flashes and everything that goes along with ??? i am having my ovaries removed as welll. sched for 2/23 and am starting to become a nervous wreck

Hi there! This is one question for which you will get a million different answers because everyone experiences surgical menopause differently.

For me, I had no hot flashes at all and only a couple of nightsweats. I did experience some emotional ups-and-downs for the first few months. So far, I have chosen not to take HRT. My doctors have said it isn't necessary to take HRT unless the symptoms really bother me. So far, so good.

During the past couple of weeks, I have had a few very mild hot flashes at night but they are not very bothersome, thank goodness!

Please ask your doctor if he/she plans to put you on HRT right away or wait to see how you progress. There are so many variations in the way doctors handle this and it also depends on your medical history.

My doc waited 3 days before he decided to put me on HRT. I felt it bad by day 2. But that was just me. Everyone is different. I was worried about it too, so definitely talk to your doc about what his thoughts are on HRT.
