Abominal Binders anyone?????

I am having my hyst on June 20 and I am overweight. My doctor has said he will do a bikini cut in the crease of my pubic area (TMI). However, I have been told to get a binder to help with the recovery. (from other overweight people that have had Gastric bypass and lap gallbladder surgerys)

The Swelly Belly will not work for me in that I don't believe it will fit properly due to a small pannus I have. Can anyone relate their use of a binder? Thanks!

Abominal Binders anyone?????

Hi,

I did not need a binder, as I had a TVH, but if you would like to see what others say about binders, belly bands, etc. you can do a Search (upper right hand corner of page) and put in name or topic and see what threads will come up dealing with this subject.

I hope this helps some until someone comes along with recent experience.

There is probably a size of the Swelly Belly band which will work for you.

I also used an abdominal binder from the -- in fact I used two of them to make the coverage area bigger. The binder accomplished three important things: 1) It gave me good support, 2) it kept all of the dressings in place so I didn't have to use any adhesive tape  , and 3) it gave me a place to clip my three surgical drains.

In retrospect, I think I could have used the Band after my initial recovery period was over (after I didn't need the binder anymore). The cool feeling would have been welcome as I dealt with swelly belly for several months.

However, you can always order the band later if you think it would be helpful.
