Surgery Monday, cold and cough today...

My surgery is scheduled Monday and over the weekend I have been battling a small cough. I had my preop yesterday and mentioned it to both Dr and anesthesiologist and both said as long as no fever, no problem. The Dr listened to my lungs and said they were clear. Of course it has turned into a full blown cold today, but no fever and no signs of infection. Just bothersome. I was told not to take asprin, etc..., but I wonder about an expectorant (sp?). I have some Robitussin that usually does the trick. I feel sure that it will be clear by Monday, don't ya'll agree???? I would jump off a bridge if my surgery got cancelled.

Surgery Monday, cold and cough today...

I was 10 days out and got a sinus and URI. Got antibiotics before it got very far along and had no problems. But I was paranoid about being around anyone sneezing or coughing and same things with washing off germs from shopping carts and so on. Keep healthy!

Hmm . . . If I didn't feel markedly better by tomorrow, I think I'd either call the surgeon's office or go see my family doc before the week was out. You might get a script for an anti-biotic which could stave off things progressing to something worse. Not only do you want to keep your schedule, you don't want to be dealing with some horrid cold/cough/etc on top of recovering from surgery! I work at a family practice, and we're already seeing a lot of nasty bugs (getting an early start!).

If you do see your family doc, be sure to explain that you're having surgery on Monday. Just my

Best of luck with everything!!!

Surgery Monday, cold and cough today...

I am still battling sinus infection (going on 3rd week). I finished my antibiotics but am still coughing (mostly in the morning). I talked to DR last night and he said that as long as there was no infection and my drainage was clear (yuck), we could still go ahead on Tuesday.

I hope you feel better!!

Surgery Monday, cold and cough today...

I got the sniffles a week or so before my tah/bso. I was given meds and was also told that unless I was running a fever or having trouble breathing that surgery would proceed.

I would go ahead and call your dr and let him/her know that yours is worse. Ask what you can take to help get better. That way, you'll know for sure what to do

Best wishes, I'll pray that it clears up quickly

Surgery Monday, cold and cough today...

I also caught a cold before my surgery and about a week before my surgery I was so sick that I wondered if my surgery would have to be cancelled. I was told that as long as I didn't have a fever, everything would be ok. I still had a slight cough the day of the surgery, but everything worked out just fine. After surgery I was told to make sure to hold my stomach when I coughed to protect my incision. Thank goodness I didn't have any coughing fits!! I hope you'll be feeling much better
