Pre-op appt

So I have scheduled a special appt. tomorrow with the surgeon (I wasn't supposed to see him again until D-Day) but I am making myself sick worrying about this. I am a worrier anyway so this is nothing new. I feel better already knowing I have this appt. now I'm scared I may forget some questions. I printed out the ones on this website and have a few of my own but if anyone has any easily-forgotten questions please let me know.

Re: Pre-op appt

I wrote all my questions on a list and took it with me for my appointment. That way I was sure not to forget any

I am a worrier just like you. Hard to change that.

Yes, I would write out your questions and bring them with you that way you don't forget to ask anything.

Re: Pre-op appt

Here are the questions I asked my Dr.:

1. Will my ovaries work after? Are they going to go to sleep?
2. What are the odds of my ovaries shutting down after surgery?
3. How long will my ovaries be shut down for if they shut down?
4. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my ovaries shutting down after surgery?
5. Will I be under general anesthesia only?
6. Will I be or can I be given anti-nausea meds for the anesthesia?
7. How long will my hospital stay be?
8. What can I expect after physically and emotionally?
9. What limitations or restrictions will I have afterwards?
10. When will I have a follow-up appt.?
11. Where are my fibroids located? inside, outside, in wall?
12. What are the complications that may happen during this procedure?
13. How long will my recovery time be?
14. How many of these surgeries have you done?
15. Will anything inside my body be affected from the absence of my uterus?
16. Can I get my post-op meds now?
17. Will I have a catheter?
18. Will anything else need to be done to me before the procedure (any tests, etc.), during, or after?
19. Will I have post-op vaginal bleeding/drainage? How long does this last?
20. Will this procedure cause any problems that would normally happen later in life to happen sooner?
21. When can I start taking a stool softener?
22. Describe the procedure.
23. Will my vagina still stay balanced after this procedure so that I do not have to do any douching or anything afterwards during my lifetime?
24. What are the odds of you switching from DaVinci to another procedure during the middle of the procedure and what would cause you to do that?
25. Do I need a tummy binder? Will they give me one in the hospital?
26. Can I get a copy of my surgery report afterwards and how do I do that?
27. How long before I get the pathology report and how will you notify me of results?
28. Do I stop taking my birth control pill before the procedure and when do I stop it?
29. How many incisions will I have and how are you going to close them?
30. Can I use stairs after the procedure?
31. Do you have any purchase suggestions to make home or sleep easier for when I return home after the procedure?

Hope this helps. I think I was pretty thorough.

Good luck!

Re: Pre-op appt

Meeting was great. Hubby had the one all important MAN question..."How long till sex again?" My friends thinks he is nuts I say he's just a man. The surgeon didn't seem rushed; he took the time to answer my questions thoroughly. Described the proceedure in detail. He also told me I was scaring myself with the internet. Google is the "all-knowing" right? But in all honesty he is right I am going to TRY to limit my google access until the 17th.
