18 months post-op: Hysterectomy and Costochondritis

Hi
I developed costochondritis after my hysterectomy, I didn’t know what it was at the time and tried to ignore it for months. It got so bad, I went to my GP. After 6 months I finally found out it was acute costochondritis. I have had 3 procedures to date and awaiting a 4th next week. They involve a series of injections containing steroid and anti inflammatory into the trigger point areas ( which are everywhere).
My GP said this could have been caused during the hysterectomy.
Has anyone been given this cause for costochondritis?

Re: Hysterectomy and Costochondritis

Hello and welcome here! I'm glad you went to your doctor about this.

We had a very recent thread where someone got diagnosed with costochondritis in the very first week post hysterectomy:

There are also several older posts about costochondritis:

If you're comfortable sharing - are the injections helping? Have you found any other tips for getting some relief from the aches and pains?

Hi
The injections are helping, but I have roughly 30 in a procedure. The reason I mention the amount is in my 1st and 2nd procedure I had only 3 injections ( 1st time - back & 2nd time chest wall ) And these didn’t help, the pain remained the same.

I am due back in for another procedure on Monday and this should help stabilise the pain so I can get back to work ( I have been of work for 3 months ).
My specialist has said when we get the pain down to 20% he will stop repeating the procedures and the body should ‘mop’ the rest of the pain up.
I do get some pain relief with a tens machine - some nights I sleep with it on.

Thanks for sharing, and WOW that’s a lot of injections.

By the way - did you have your surgery back in 98, or is that a typo?
