Need help -- No sure how to proceed

I do not have cancer (yet).

Gyn wants to remove uterus, ovaries, cervix b/c:

1) Endometrial stripe is 11.5, Hx. of cervical CIN III, Complex cyst on ovary

Also, not sure if relevant, 3 colonoscopies with precancerous polyps.

2) Mom is dying from ovarian cancer -- Her mom died of breast cancer

3) I use progestin to protect uterus but not doing job b/c not sufficient dose -- can't tolerate higher dose -- severe depression, incapacitation.

4) Can't tolerate in-office biopsy -- panic attack & fainting

5) have had two D & C's for same stripe problem

Any thoughts?

Need help -- No sure how to proceed

Hi Tammy,
It sounds like you have a lot on your plate. What is your doctor suggesting? Have you gotten a second opinion? This really is your decision & no one else's. I went into my hysterectomy without any definite cause of my chronic pelvic pain, excessive bleeding, & horrific cramps. I'd decided that if I had the surgery just to relieve those symptoms & the pathology all came back normal, I'd still be glad to have done it. The pathology did come back showing I had adenomyosis which the doc felt was the source of all my problems. I guess what I'm saying is that you need to decide if this surgery is the right decision for you & if you do decide to do it, that your reasons for doing it satisfy you. I wish you the best in your decision!

Blessings,
Sue

Hi Tammy,

I'm sorry all this is being thrown at you. With your family history, I would strongly recommend that you get an opinion with a gynecological oncologist before you go ahead with any surgery. They are the experts when it comes to finding and treating gyn cancers...they know just what to look for.
I woul definetlysee a gyn/onc before letting your own ob/gyn do this surgery that he is suggesting.

Have you discovered our cancer concerns forum? https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/forumdisplay.php?f=6
Please drop by and say You will get wonderful support and perhaps someone there has gone through what you are going through now.

in there!
