How long will I be out of work?
My surgery is about a month away and I am trying to figure out a realistic timeframe that I will be out of work. I am getting the DiVinci so I have heard about the fast recoveries and quick returns to work. I work as a Teacher's Aide in Daycare with 3 yr olds. As you can imagine my job involves alot runnin around and lifting the children. I also help as the bus aide in the morning and that involves bending up and down streching and lifting the children into their seats for about 2 hrs. So should I expect or even request to be out for the 6 weeks to be safe or should I be ok after 4? I havent spoken to my Dr. yet about it I just like to be prepared lol.....

Ask for the full 6 weeks as you have a physical job. Best of luck.

Re: How long will I be out of work?
I scheduled 6 weeks off and glad I did. I had a tvh with lso and was feeling pretty good at 4-5 weeks. It is easier to come back early vs scheduling more time off. Good luck. I work as a night nurse.

Re: How long will I be out of work?
I also work as a Teacher's Aide but I work with middle school aged kids. My doctor suggested I take up to 8 weeks off but keep in mind that I'm getting a TAH... Everything seems to indicate that requires a little more healing time.

Re: How long will I be out of work?
once I had my preop with my doc and it was under 30 days for the surgery i called the disability number for my job.. they sent the papers (or let you download them) I then sent them to the doctors. Just got an approved disability letter in the mail.. of course they don't tell you how much $$ ... anywhere from 60% to 100% of salary.. um, I'll take that 100% please! How they determine it I don't know.. What confuses me is if you go in as outpatient, then you have to use 5 PTO (paid time off days) before disability kicks in, but if you stay the night, then disability starts the very next day you are scheduled to work.
