help! i have a doctor's appointment at 11:00 and

I want to ask him if he will attatch the end of my vagina to anything once he removes my uterus. i can't remember what the procedure is called! not the hysterectomy, but the tacking my vagina to something so it isn't loose and flapping around in there. can anyone help?

The top of the vagina is sewn shut to make a "cuff"-that is if you do not keep your cervix.

I have also learned that the DR may be able to leave a cervical "stump" without leaving the entire cervix-so you are essentially the same as you were prior to surgery-in the vaginal canal. Sometimes the vaginal cuff can shorten the vagina.

Hope all goes well for you.

It's odd the things we take for granted. I had never thought about wht holds (held) my uterus in place until I asked my gyn what whould hold my vagina in. She told me there are ligaments that support the uterus and they would then be attached to my vagina to hold it in place. As for it becoming shorter because of the cuff, she said it would be very little, I have to admit I (and DH) don't notice a difference.
