Upcoming hysterectomy May 7 and very nervous. Need advice!

I'm scheduled for a robotic hystorectomy on May 7 and I'm starting to question my decision. I know I need to have it done and have already had a second opinion. The doctor says that with a robotic or laparoscopic procedure I can go home the same day but I have lupus and may need a transfusion for the procedure. I'm thinking it's too soon to go home but was wondering if anyone had this type of procedure and went home same day. Also, I live on a second floor and need to walk up the stairs. I'm overweight and have several herniated discs so it's already difficult to walk up the stairs and I'm afraid I won't be able to same day of surgery. If anyone can give me some advice I would be so grateful.

Re: Surgery May 7 and very nervous. Need advice!

I didn’t have the same procedure but many ladies on here have and can chime in.

In terms of stairs I just took them one step at a time. Both feet onto one step then go up another. It wasn’t fast but it was possible. Do you have a handrail on your stairs - I needed to use mine for a few weeks to get up and down. I also live on the second floor but for the first few days home I just stayed up there and didn’t leave the upstairs.

Thanks. I guess I'm just concerned because it is major surgery and it seems like it's too soon to go home same day. I do have handrails and is great to know I'm not the only one with this issue. I will definitely take it one step at a time

I stayed in the hospital for 3 nights but I had a different surgery and was told I would stay 2-3. I totally understand your concerns - can you talk to your Dr about your options? With the addition of Lupus and the possibility of transfusions maybe you could stay the night?

If it makes you feel better two of the women I work with had laparoscopic surgery and went home the same day and were totally okay. You will get more rest at home - in the hospital they were in and out all night checking vitals and asking me about my pain levels (Um ... I’m sleeping - I’m good! )
