Hi ladies and Ultram Elavil for pain

I have had good success with Ultram, though it is not as effective for me as Percocet or other narcotics -- but I have fewer side effects with Ultram (or the generic, Tramadol, both work equally well in my experience). When my pain is severe, Ultram + tylenol have worked well for me.

My Dr. and I are thinking about trying Elavil, also, for my arthritis, so thank you for asking the questions! I too am interested in the weight gain issue? I look forward to something that would help me sleep better, though. Sometimes, with all the promises of treatments and uncertainty of diagnosis, I really feel like a science experiment -- a mouse caught in a maze where there may or may not be cheese.

Love and light and pain free thoughts to all of my sisters today,

Nerve Pain and Anti Depressants

I'll let you all know my experience. If the ultram doesn't work for me, the dr is going to try neurontin. I too feel like a science experiement etc. It is frustrating. Like all of us, I just want the pain to go away...or at least ease up so it is tolerable.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences.

Heads Up!

Newsweek, for the week of 5/19, has devoted a significant part of the health/technology issue on the topic of pain treatment.

I've just started into it, but there's some interesting reading! There's an article in fibro, and also on kids and pain (it says that 12% of all children suffer from chronic abdominal pain...and my DD, after three intestinal surgeries, is one of them ).

Very interesting reading, and $3.95 well-spent! Also, there's a related live chat tomorrow...the link is here: Newsweek pain article and live chat . There's some great graphics and a really clear explanation of the various modes and therapies.

Just thought I'd share...
