When can you return to work?

I am scheduled to have a TAH on May 21st. I am having it all taken out due to me having PID. I am currently un-employed as of right now but there is a possiblility I will start my new job on June 9th. That is giving me a lil' over 2 weeks of recovery. The job I will be starting is customer service for health insurance and at the time I start it is just training for the job. The Dr. & nurse has already told me no driving for 2 weeks. Is there any one that can give me any help on knowing when to go to work? I had adonimal surgery in 96 and gone back to work after 3 weeks. Is a hysterectomy different?

When can you return to work?

The initial recovery period is 6-8 weeks. Your doctor will let you know when you will be released to return to work. I think that 2 weeks post-op will be too soon to return to work. At 2-4 weeks post-op is when all the internal stitches begin to dissolve. I have had other abdominal surgeries too - the hysterectomy recovery took longer. There is plenty of major internal work done with removing the organs and re-attaching ligaments. The body simply needs adequate time to recover and the recovery process cannot be rushed. Hopefully you can discuss a later starting date for your new job.

Be sure to visit us in the Post-op Forum after your surgery to let us know how you are doing.

When can you return to work?

Hi bizcuit, I agree with Lynn that 2 weeks is too soon to be going back to work. Your dr should be able to tell you when you can return and it's very important to follow your dr's orders.
Could you also go to your profile and add your surgery date?
We send best wishes to everyone before their surgery and would like to include you.
