Cancer Survivors Day

I have been attending National Cancer Survivors Day celebrations since 2000, the year after I completed my endometrial cancer treatment. This year I will be attending two parties---one at the local hospital where I did not receive treatment but where I attended support group and have done some volunteer work in the past, and the other at the hospital where I received my radiation treatments. I've never heard anything from the hospital where I had my surgery, but have not inquired because that hospital is 30 miles away and I am too busy with parties closer to home!!

Although I believe June 1 is actually National Cancer Survivors Day this year, the parties and celebrations continue throughout the first week of June. Fortunately, the dates of my two parties don't conflict so I can attend both which are very different, but equally enjoyable and wonderful.

I don't always received a personal invitation in the mail. Sometimes the hospitals publish an ad in the local newspapers and sometimes I see information about the celebrations in the hospitals' quarterly publications.

So for those of you who have not heard about a Survivors Day celebration in your area yet, check with your hospitals and cancer centers directly to find out what's being planned. These events are too much fun to miss!

Happy Cancer Survivors Day--

A Wonderful Invitation

Hi Moe,,

This party is Saturday, June 7th and I am really looking forward to it.

My last day of work is Friday, June 6th (I am a teacher ), Saturday is the party, and on Monday June9th I have doctor appointments with my gynocologist/oncologist and my oncologist. Should be a very interesting weekend and end of the school year.

Will keep everyone informed.

Have a great time at the party!

The hospital where I am having my radiation is having a Cancer Survivors Dinner - all done with a 1950's theme. It is being held outside "under a tent" on Wednesday night. There is just a broad invitation in the Cancer Center and it has been published in the paper. I will let you know if I go how it was!

I think it is a terrific idea.
