Interstim

Hey all -

Just wanted to give you all a quick update on me and my "lovely" bladder . As alot of you know I have had urinary retention and constipation since my Rad Hyst on Jan. 28th 2002.

Between Feb. 28th and April 11th I went thru 3 "staged" trials for the InterStim. The 3rd trial finally showed some progress. I was able to void 1/2 of what was in my bladder naturally. On April 25th I went in for the permanent implant. I am still voiding 1/2 naturally on my "good" days and have shown significant improvement with bowel movements. I went for an adjustment just last week and things seem to be improving a lil bit more. My doc said that if I'm still voiding only 1/2 of what's in my bladder in three months then we'll talk about meds to help my bladder contract. Keep in mind that my doc isn't to keen on his patients taking meds because alot of times they may do more harm than good. That's his motto anyway.

I do consider the InterStim a miracle in my book. If it wasn't for my implant I wouldn't be "peeing" and "pooping" on my own . To think that my onc/gyn once said that I may have to laxatives for the rest of my life....PFFFFFF !!!!

If anyone has questions or would like feedback from my personal experience with the InterStim please don't be afraid to give me a holler.

I would also like to add that this site is great !!!! I don't know what I would've done pre-op and post-op if it wasn't for all you gals !!!!

Take care - Mel
