Hi Renee,

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. This is such an unfortunate mishap, I would just hate to have *anybody* go through it..

OH NO!!!

Hi ladies,
I sure hope you don't mind me barging in on your messages. I think I may have (V V F) and I have a million things spinning in my head.
I had a TAH on April 23rd. When I was still in the hospital post-up everytime I went to the bathroom it felt like my bladder was collapsing (or possibley spasming). Then at 3 1/2 weeks post-op I woke up because I was gushing. I thought I might be hemor. but it turned out to be urine. I could swear it was coming from the vagina. Meantime my doctor is treating me for a UTI that he thinks is causing the incontinence. I go through two rounds of antibiotics and then diagnosed with an overactive bladder. I have been on meds for that, which of course isn't touching it. I have an appointment with a urologist on the 10th. I still thought I was leaking from the vagina, so I do a tampon test and sure enough only after a couple minutes the tampon was soaked. I also kept saying that it felt like my bladder was anable to fill.
I am thinking I might have the (V VH).
A couple question for you. The catheter they have you were, is it just like the ones after the hysterectomy, with that big bulky tube and bag? Please tell me it is a little less revealing.
I am so sad. My whole summer is now shot. I just bought a bikini....I won't get the chance to use it.
Oh....so, so sad.
I hope you all are doing better. I will be thinking about you.

Dear Abby,

I am SO sorry that you have a VVF also.. Well, I guess you've read this thread and have read our woes.. I am on my second cath right now (I've had one in since May 23rd) and the hole is closing up! My URO said that these (small fistulas) generally take about 3 weeks to heal. Definitely do stay on the cath so that your bladder will get a chance to rest and heal. And of course, it goes without saying, but DO listen to your Dr... !
I sure wish you all the best!

Hole in bladder

Dear Abby,

I fear you may have a V V F. Your symptoms sound too similar to mine. They kept putting me off too saying it was a UTI and to do Kegals, etc. NINE days before my GYN finally saw me.

As far as the catheter. Yes it's like the one you had in the hospital that you will use at night time....BUT in the day time there is a smaller one that straps on to your leg. I found that wearing lose pants or overalls was the most comfortable. You will get use to it IF you are cath'd, and we are here to help you go through this long road.

We may be jumping the gun here so I wouldn't worry too much until you've been diagnosed. Please know that we fistula sisters are here for you.....I'll be thinking that you will have the best case scenerio which would be a UTI.

Good luck and keep in touch

Hole in bladder

Abby,

I am one of the fistula sisters also. Your story sounds exactly like mine! Drs blew me off for almost 3 weeks after the leaking started (10days post hyster) and kept diagnosing utis. I didn't get a positive diagnonsis till I went to the uro and had an IVP and cysto (almost a month after the hysterectomy which was Oct 15) I had a cath for 7 weeks to see if it would heal on it's own 'cause it was small, it didn't) and Jan 15th I had the fistula repaired abdominally.

It is a rough road but you will get through it! I am almost 5 months post repair and doing pretty well except for the occassional bladder woes (spasms) There are alot of old threads here you can reference, a really long one titled "vaginal urination" has alot of info. You can also type in "fistula" in the search box on this web site. Also e medicine.com has great articles on fistulas.

Good luck to you and post when ever you want. you can also start your own thread once you start on the road and we can all support you.

Lots of hugs,

Louise

Letting you know

Hi sisters,
I wanted to let you know in case you haven't seen it already that I started a new thread called "Fistula strikes yet another sister". I am really, really overwhelmed right now. There are so many things racing through my head. Most are petty things such as not being able to wear shorts. But it is all adding up. Please, please reassure me that this will all be okay. I am feeling pretty dark right now.

's to every one of you.
