Pain Medication

Hi all, I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op from a TAH with left ovary removed. I am having more discomfort this week than I have been having. I can not take advil or any anti-inflammatories because of an ulcer. Is is unreasonable to ask the doctor for another refill of pain medication? I called the pharmacy and they are going to call to get Dr. Authorization. Regular tylenol doesn't seem to be doing the trick so I just wanted opinions on this.
I just started spotting a couple of days ago and cramping some I from what I learned from this forum that is the internal stitches dissolving and getting some feeling back in the nerves.
TOTAL TAH on 5/8/03 with Left ovary removal. Very large Fibroid, endometriosis, cysts.

Hi Jana,

I don't think you should have a problem getting a refill on your pain meds, especially since you can't take advil or ibuprofen. The doctor may prescribe a milder pain med than you were on before.

I hope you feel better soon.

Pain Medication

I had TAH on 5/10 and my MD said to plan on using the pain killers as needed off and on for the first three weeks. I also cannot tolerate advil/motrin. In fact the first two weeks post-op I was on a liquid diet due to stomach problems. They finally put me on Lomidil and the BRAT diet. If your MD doesnt want to refill your existing rx they can always give you something comparable. Best of Luck!

hi Jana!

I was able to get two refills on my pain meds. I did have a catheter for three weeks, which I think helped my "case," as it was causing a lot of discomfort and irritation.

In light of the fact that you're not able to take ibuprofen, I don't think you should have a problem. It's certainly NOT unreasonable for you to ask!

Good luck, sweetie- hope you feel better soon.!
