Can U recommend good, old scary/suspense movies?

Hi ladies!

Our kids really enjoy horror & suspense movies. The things they watch would bring me to my knees, but they love it!

Fine, I say, but I do like to slip them a really good old classic once in a while.
I suppose it's to show them that great effect can be achieved even in the absence of naked teen girls and the violent acts actually played out before our very eyes!

They have enjoyed some Hitchcock.
Anyone have any ideas that I can share with them?

And of course, you know if I say I got the recommendations off the internet, they will be much more inclined pursue them.

Mom's a sissy and they all know it!

Thanks alot, sisters!!!

My 17-year-old DD and her boyfriend (who I love to death) are both total movie nuts. In fact, my DD's new summer resolution is to watch every movie on the American Film Institute's Top 100 Movies List by the time school starts again in August. She told me to give you the link to the AFI's list of Top 100 Thrilling Movies: http://www.afi.com/tv/thrills.asp . It has some more "modern" movies on it ("The Sixth Sense," "The Matrix") but it has some classics on it too ("North by Northwest," "The Birds," "King Kong"). I actually got my DD the #1 movie on the list, "Psycho," as a gift, but she hasn't worked up the nerve to watch it yet! I won't be watching it with her when she does, though!

Thank you Janice! And thanks to your dd!

I've printed off the list from the website you provided.

Good luck to your dd in meeting her goal to watch 100 movies this summer!
Sounds like you'll be popping lots of corn at your house.

Many thanks for the great idea. Now, I'm off to scare the children...

Thumbs up - Can U recommend good, old scary/suspense movies? Can U recommend good, old scary/suspense movies?

Hi There,

If you could get hold of any the old Betty Davis movies with Joan Crawford (sp) that would be cool. To this day I still remember when I was a little girl watching "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"

Baby Jane

Hated that one! I thought it was vile and sick!

I like things a bit more left to suggestion!

Katie, I suspect our dear mothers never knew we were watching it! Had to sneak to see the 3 stooges, too.

Marian, vile & sick? Perfect! Exactly what the kids are after.

I don't know if you ladies had what was called the "4:30 movie" every weekday in your area, and they would have "Bette Davis and Joan Crawford week". They played that movie, Baby Jane, so many times, I practically knew it word for word. And, I agree with Marian, it is sort of sick and macabre, which is what made it so scary and sort of fascinating. It will definitely leave a mark on your children, , which is why you remember it to this day!
