Happy NCS Day!

Believe me, I can definitely relate to your sense of frustration about lack of attention on the part of the ACS to gynecologic cancers. Although off topic for this post, I've posted in the past about the ACS's lack of response to letters I've written about the dramatically increased endometrial cancer death rate. I've recently stopped contributing, advising the ACS that I can no longer contribute to an organization that so inadequately represents my interests and the interests of other similarly-situated women. I did not want to do that, but decided I had to take a stand on an issue that was of the utmost importance to me. And to date, although I have received a so-called response after 5 months, it was not an effective response which adequately addressed the issues I raised in my letter.

I think the truth of the matter is that the breast cancer coalition is well organized, has the numbers as well as strong corporate sponsorship, and knows how to work the system. We need to learn from their example.

We'll be taking a small step in the right direction when we get Barbara Walters' ear and we convince her to do a segment on The View. I even told Barbara in my letter that because of the importance of the issue the show needs to be in prime time. And I heard the other day that there is scheduled to be a prime time segment of The View (on a health-related topic) on June 16th. So who knows, we our turn may be coming soon!

Keep the faith and keep writing those letters. Sooner or later they'll get sick of listening to us and give gynecologic cancer the attention it deserves!

The View and Fran Drescher

Ellen, MoeKay and Ladies,
I just checked the TV Guide online. Tomorrow, of all people, Fran Drescher is going to be a co-host. Maybe she will mention something about her uterine cancer. I couldn't get the info for the 16th because it only shows two weeks, but tomorrow it may be available. Got to www.tvguide.com and then go to tv listings. If you need any help, let me know. Thanks Norway Lynn

Thanks for the heads-up that Fran Drescher will be a guest host on The View tomorrow. I would be very surprised if she did not say something about her uterine (endometrial) cancer. Maybe the timing of her appearance is fortunate, as some of us have recently written to Barbara Walters or others of the hosts about the need for a show on gynecologic cancer.

Unfortunately, I'll be working during the day without access to a tv, and my VCR has been out of commission for a while now. Hopefully, someone who is able to catch the show will report back about whether the issue of gynecologic cancer was discussed.

From what Barbara Walters said on the show I was able to catch last week, the prime time slot on the 16th is being sponsored by Johnson & Johnson (the pharmaceutical company) and has something to do with women's and men's health issues.
