What age to explain Birds and Bees?

Im not a mother but I remember when I was little....my mom needed napkins for dinner and I yelled we had some in the bathroom. She soon after had contacted KOTEX and they sent her a "Starter Box"......NO KIDDING!!

Do they even do that still?? It was a pink box with everything a young girl needed when she first starts her period. Books...and assorted products to find whats most comfortable. My mom told me all about the birds and the bees and periods to the best of her ability.....then she showed me the box.....it was then put away in my room for that day when it came. I could peek through it all and read the books if I wanted to check it out in private....LOL.

It was a neat concept....something to use in addition to you explaining it the best you can and everything in sample sizes and explained for a young girl to understand. It was nice having it there when I needed it. No need to panic about a young girl using awkward adult sizes and there were different types to choose from.

Talking - What age to explain Birds and Bees? What age to explain Birds and Bees?

A couple kids come into the kitchen and ask mom about genes. Well the mom sits down and starts the talk. The kids listen patiently and then the girl says, "Well, yesterday our teacher told us you could tell a lot about people by looking at their jeans. Johnny and I were staring at the jeans hang on the clothes line and we did not see what she meant."

Sometimes we give more information then needed.
