posterior repair?

Will someone please tell me what this is and if it makes your recovery a little harder- I had this done along with LAVH- just wondering if maybe this is way I still feel terrible at 2 and half weeks- I know it has something to do with tacking up the bladder-and when I got my hospital bill - the charges for this are almost as much as the LAVH.

posterior repair?

Posterior repair would be for rectocele. Anterior repair is for bladder issues.

Either way, it does add to your discomfort, I guess. Can only guess, cause never experienced LAVH without the repair.

The expected time for initial recovery is 6-8 weeks. So, you are early in your recovery. Some discomfort is expected, even with the pain meds. Are you resting, taking little, short walks around the house, and getting plenty to drink?

Are you experiencing the gas monster? The walks should help some with that. Also, gas-x or such can help as well.

Avoid straws and bubbly drinks, and anything else that is traditionally a gas producer. (ie. beans, cabbage...)

Maybe you could be a little more specific about your complaints. Then we might be better able to help.

By all means, if you are concerned, call your DR, too.

posterior repair?

Now I'm really confused- Maybe I read the bill wrong- so what is the rectocele? repair. My Dr. said he put some stitches in my bladder- My complaint is lower ab pain, gas- just today though it was BAAAAD- everything I eat seems to go right through me- just in general I feel bad-want to hold me lower ab when I walk around the house. Did not have this pain 1 week after - why am I having it now? HELP

Sorry you are feeling so bad. Please call your doctor with any new pain. They can maybe check it out or give you some answers. I hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted.

Hi cjay......

Remember, the effects of the anesthesia are just wearing off at two weeks.....which could be why you're REALLY starting to feel the effects of your surgery now.

ShirlO is right, "posterior" repair would refer to a rectocele (part of the rectum that bulges into the vagina). "Anterior" repair would be for a cystocele (part of the bladder that bulges into the vagina). Maybe it was a type-O on your bill. Ask your doctor.

Are you resting and reclining enough? Sitting can be almost as bad as standing on your healing body. If I was upright too long in the beginning (even only for a half-hour!) my belly would ache too---and I did have to "hold it" for support. Try laying down or reclining while watching TV or reading. I believe this will help.

If you still have no relief please call your
