Sciatica (sp?) and large Fibroids

Lately I have been h aving some really bad sciatica attacks like when I was pregnant with my kids. I was on Lupron w hich shrunk my fibroid about 1cm, but have been off of it for 1 1/2 mos now. I was told that the tumor would grow back to original size after I stopped taking the Lupron. Could this be causing the sciatica pain? My tumor is about 15cm. Which I t hink is pretty large considering a baby's head is 10cm, I'm thinking it's leaning on my nerve.

Anyone else with this problem? It's really pretty painful.

Thanks for any help! 's, Jo

Sciatica (sp?) and large Fibroids

I had a large fibroid and I had lots of trouble with my nerve. Sometimes my left leg would just give out and I would fall down. I had a lot of back and leg discomfort at times.
My dr. said that it was possible that the fibroid could press on the sciatic nerve.
Hope this helpswith your question.

Sciatica (sp?) and large Fibroids

Hi Star-
I had a very similar issue. For the last eight years I knew when I was about to have my period (start spotting) because my back would begin to hurt so much and it felt like I was carrying around a brick in my pelvic floor! I also suffered from sciatica pain with both pregnancies! So yes, I too put two and two together and associated the fibroid with the back pain! I have of course discussed this with my doc's at each office visit for 8 years and after ultrasounds I was dismissed because the whereabouts and size of my fibroids I was told was likely not the culprit. I did not believe this. I suppose with new research and advanced understanding, my Gyn seemed more empathetic recently and acknowledged this association. Before surgery she discussed pain management of my back pain and seemed to understand this pain/sciatica thing to be a potential side effect to a fibroid. I also saw a chiropractor just B4 surgery and for the first time he also acknowledged the likelihood o this association! After 8 years of nothing/no help! Now I am one month post op and so far have no back pain/ or sciatica! I hope this is helpful!!!! Let me know how this helps you from the other side!!!
