Fistula strikes yet another sister

Hey Abby,

I had a uretero-vaginal fistula like yours. Mine healed with just the stint being in for 6 weeks. It was an amazing answer to prayer. My fistula was in the ureter fairly close to where it joined the bladder. ANY WAY, I just wanted to write and encourage you that it can heal without additional surgery.

My best advice is to try the ditropan versus the detrol for the bladder and stint spasms if you get them. It worked so much better and was SO much cheaper. I also used uristat-an over the counter med that numbs the urinary tract. Ask your doc if you feel like you need these. They made my life more bearable. Don't over exercise. One thing the urologist told me (after I'd already been putting in time on the treadmill) was that every step moves the stint in the ureter. What you are trying to do it let it heal. SO vigorous exercise wasn't the way to go. He basically said to walk comfortably-feel free to move around, but that now was the time to eat well, rest well, and allow my body to heal. I would have the rest of my life to get back in shape after the ureter healed. Allow yourself to treat yourself well and gently until you are all better.

By the way, when my final IVP was done a month after the stint was removed, it showed NOTHING. As the doc said, "It was as if it had never happened."

Am praying for swift and complete healing for you.

Dear Abby,

Wow, what an ordeal you went through! I am sorry I haven't been on this board much.. just been busy.. but I am STILL leaking and even though the hole is super small, I am going to go to Honolulu where they have a specialist that does this type of stuff.. vaginally. I can't wait. I have had this cath in since May 23rd and I sure would love to have that out. I will know moer after I get back from the appt with my surgeon on Monday..
I wish you the best..
