Oh, Bother! My LAST Chemo is postponed!

My 6th chemo was supposed to be today...but my platelets dropped again...so...I'm postponed for a week. I was so hoping to be done today. Well, I can do anything for a week!

I came home and ate a piece of cake!!! Now I need to get busy and eat the good stuff again. Anyone have any dietary suggestions for improving blood counts?

I am so sorry to hear that

I will pray that your platelets will be up by next week. Take care and God Bless and Keep you.

How very disappointig for you. One more week to wait feels like an eternity now but will pass quickly. I know of no fast trick to get those pesky cells up to par. Maybe that piece of cake helped!

May next week give you a good count.

Postponing

I don't know of anything to increase platelets. They seem to be in a class by themselves. I had platelets all over the map this last time with carbo--once I had 37,000 two weeks post chemo but two weeks later was well able to have treatment as they were up and active. I know it's an awful disappointment.

Darn!!! I am sure you are so disappointed!!! I guess what's good for the blood must be good for the platelets as well. Red meat and green veggies. Take good care of yourself this coming week. And let us know when the party can begin!!\

I was going to say the exact same thing that Karen did: red meat and dark green leafy vegetables. Are they giving you something that will help increase the platelets? Let us know.

I haven't been able to find anything dietary in nature to help white blood counts . . . so maybe there as just those things that get smacked so hard by chemo that nothing helps . . . unless it's manufactured by Amgen. ;-)

Just one more week and then you're all through! How wonderful! You must feel great! I know that a one-week postponement can make you feel just so cranky. But . . . hopefully you're feeling good this week and can dance around in anticipation of your final chemo! Woo-hoo!

Thanks for your thoughts, Sisters...

I went to the infusion center today knowing that I had a 50/50 chance of not getting chemo. I was guessing by the number of bruises that I have on my body and knowing that I didn't even remember getting them!

Actually, I'm only a little disappointed. My kids have their last week of school this week, and they have several 1/2 days and activities. It was going to take a whole bunch of arranging on my part to get through this week and still be able to rest.

I guess everything happens for a reason.

I wasn't able to find anything nutritionally related that would help a low platelet count. I will stick to the red meat and dark greens. Good thing they're my favorites.

Another thing that I make that seems to help me, nutritionally speaking. I love smoothies: 1 cup yogurt, 2 tbsp. wheat germ, sliced bananas, another fruit like strawberries, peaches, etc., crushed ice, and 1 scoop of glutamine blended in the blender. I make them for breakfast on the days following chemo when nothing tastes good. They fill me up and they have good nutritional value.

BTW, the cake did help! Nothing like chocolate frosting with yellow cake...my favorite!

Try eating some liver

Liver for iron, and a multi-vitamin with B12 and folic acid may help. Please take care not to cut yourself or bump into furnitures. Rgds, Jo

Thanks Jo

I'll try to choke down the liver!!! I'm already taking the vitamins with iron, b-12, and eating cereal with 100% iron and folic acid.

Thanks for the tip about cutting and bumping. I've been remembering the bumping, but I poked myself with a needle while I was quilting...boy did that bleed! I guess I'll have to read this week!
