enlarged uterus

I had a TVH May 19, 2003 and a D & C three weeks before that. Each time the doctor told me my uterus was enlarged. What causes an enlarged uterus. Also I thought someone mentioned that an enlarged uterus can cause weight gain, is that true?

enlarged uterus

Hello:

The uterus could be enlarged for a number of reasons. For me, it was because of fibroids. My uterus was the size of 12-14 week pregnancy. Fibroids can weigh quite a bit, thus there can be a few extra pounds carried around in the fibroids.

If you had a TVH, hadn't he removed your uterus? What was the reason you had the TVH?

I had progressively longer and worse bleeding after menopause. I had cells that almost always turned cancerous. Yes he took my uterus.

I also had an "enlarged uterus"....when it was removed it was the size of an 18-20 week pregnancy. I had adenomyosis and also a bunch of fibroids. Took some getting used to feeling "empty" after the surgery. After I got over the initial feelings that everything was just gonna fall out I was ok though.

The darnedest thing -
Okay, this is perhaps a useless question, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has faced this little gap in logic, or understands it:
I too had an enlarged uterus (size of a 22-week pregnancy). Immediately after the surgery, while still swollen, I weighed 10 pounds less than I did before the surgery; now, at 2 weeks out, I weigh about 15 pounds less.
But according to my pathology report, my uterus weighed 3 pounds.
Does anyone know what those other 12 pounds were? Did anyone else have this New Math experience?

Your pathology report should give the reason for your uterine enlargement. Have you requested it? You can probably get a copy for the asking at your DR office, as they will certainly have it.

Re: Path Report
Mine said "Endometrium with serous surface adhesions
Chronic active cervicitis, Focus of Endometriosis, paratubal cyst, follicular cyst & cystic corpus hemorrhagicus with serous surface adhesions for both ovaries

So...that takes me the the math question also---if all this came out...WHY AM I gaining???

Re:New Math------
I agree----something does NOT work out!
Except that pre-op I weighed about 5 lbs less than I do now-2 weeks post-op (TAH/BSO/Appy)
What is happening???
Maybe because I'm not as active as pre-op?
Maybe because of the IV fluids?
Maybe because I am home & not @ work---snacking more?
