Second Round of Chemo scheduled for TODAY!

Hi, Ladies. I just wanted to post a note to let you all know that I'm scheduled to do Round 2 today. You might remember that Round 1 was a bit of a bear for me as I had an allergic reaction and had to be re-challenged.

Anyway, as I've said before, we'll all be better prepared. I've been beefing myself up with Decadron every 6 hours (per doctor's orders). That's why I'm up so late. Just had my 1 a.m. dose.

Please say a prayer that all goes well with this chemo. I'll be on the slow drip starting at 8 a.m. Hopefully, a short visit with the doctor after we're all done and then, it's over to the hospital for my last radiation of the week and a visit with my radiation doctor. I will be all doctored out by the end of this day and week!

Also, I haven't posted this yet but I had my head shaved on Tuesday. More and more hair was coming out every day since last Friday and my scalp was becoming very tender. And I don't know whether it was the hot flashes or part of the whole deal but it really seemed that my hair just didn't stay clean! Yuck! It was a little sad and a lot funny. For example, I didn't realize I had THAT MUCH GRAY!! My hairdresser said, "You were expecting the same color that you get when you come to me?!" You betcha!! Talk about DENIAL!! LOL :-)! I also found out that I have a really nice shaped head and I don't look bad without hair. Who'd have guessed? Even with the inevitable sadness and feelings, I'm glad I did it.

Thanks for listening. Now it's time for me to go to bed! I'll touch base after I get home and let you know how it goes.

God bless.

Second Round of Chemo scheduled for TODAY!

I'm praying that everything goes well for your 2nd chemo today. My first chemo was a learning experience...we did lots of things different after that. I found it was easier to tolerate everything when I knew what to expect.

I had a hard time shaving my hair off, but after it was done, it has been very easy. My DH can't believe that I can get ready to go in 10 minutes, including shower, makeup, everything! I was worried when my hair started growing back in after the 3rd chemo--I thought the chemo wasn't working! But, the nurses said this was normal and OK. Now my hair is about 1/2" long. Before you know it, I'll have a hairstyle!

Best wishes for a smooth chemo and radiation today.

Best Wishes

The slow drip and extra decadron should take care of any reactions and they'll watch you extra carefully. Then over to radiation--and a free weekend! Here's hoping few side effects and no big reactoin.

Maureenie

You are in my thoughts and prayers now. God Bless. I agree with quiltcrazy44 that the first chemo is a learning experience for all involved, and that subsequent ones become more bearable. I, myself, will be looking for some extra nausea medication next time. And remembering a quote from Shakespeare! "Come what may, time and trouble doth run through the roughest day" - in other words, it will be tomorrow soon. And you will have finished your second chemo. And can cross it off the list.

Hi Maureen...

Hope all went well... Am sure that it did!!

Your attitude is wonderful and laughter is the best medicine!!

We really should meet someday. Are you working? I am off for the next 2 weeks until camp starts. If you still have my number, give me a call or email.

Smashing those cancer cells to smithereens is our main job!!

Update

Just a quick note to let you know that all went well today. I am soooooo relieved and grateful!

I also talked with my Dr. about possibilities of low white blood cells. I reminded him that I was doing the radiation on a daily basis concurrently with the chemo and expected, as we all discussed, that the combined impact of the two therapies could be a more severe drop in wbc's. Dr. agreed and I'm stopping by their office tomorrow for a shot of Neulasta. Basically, it does the same thing as Neupogen, but it's done with just one shot (within 24 hours of getting chemo) and is a slower working drug as compared to the Neupogen which is multiple shots over several days but is a quicker acting drug. I'll do this with all subsequent chemos, too, so that low wbc's won't be a problem. (After the first chemo, my white blood cells were just below the "low-normal" range and that was before the radiation started.) Anyway, I'm glad he listened as I feel like this won't get out of control and I want to stay as close to schedule as possible.

Radiation visit went well, too. Well, it's time for a well-deserved nap!

Thank you all so much for your prayers and good thoughts. God bless.

great news

Maureen-so glad to hear the news! You met that Taxol head on! Speaking of which, good for you and your nice shaped head.
I'm right behind you on the baldness front. I have an appt to get my hair cut really short on Tuesday as on day 14, I know my hair will be coming out very soon! I'm really bummed though as I've been letting it grow since October and it's naturally curly-I'm hoping it doesn't come in really different. In the whole scheme of things though- so be it! Hope my round two goes as well.
