Reflux???

Well, I got a call from my General surgeon today and he told me that my Upper GI showed minor reflux. My HIDA scan came back and my gallbladder is functioning at 70% so he said it is not the GB.

He started talking about heartburn and to me, my pain is not like heartburn. If anyone has reflux can you please tell me your symptoms!!

The pain I feel is hard to describe, it is a squeezing burning pain under my right ribcage that sometimes goes up to behind my right breastbone and through to my back. I also have degeneration in my right shoulder so I dont know which problem is causing the pain in my shoulder. It is there 85% of the time, not just after I eat anymore.

I am just soooo confused!! I am calling tomorrow to see my PCM to be referred to a Gastro Dr. Could I possibly have anymore specialists???

Thanks for ANY advise and shared experiences!!

HUGS to all!

Reflux???

I think different feel is differently sometimes. Mine is often is my back between my shoulder blades. It is an intense burning that can radiate up and down my back. It took me along time to realize is was actually stomach acid not actually back pain.

My mother feels hers more like you do, up in under her breastbone.

I hope this helps some.

Reflux?

I started to struggle with this earlier this year when I was going through lots of tests to figure out what was wrong with me (turned out to be fibroids and I had hyst)

There are lots of symptoms of reflux, yours is one of them. I'm one of the people that doesn't have heartburn, just this constant lump in my throat. I was hoping it would go away after surgery, but no luck. I'm on prescription Pepcid which helps a bit.

There are lots of websites and message boards for reflux where I have been able to ask lots of questions.

Reflux???

Thank you both so much!!

I thought I was loseing my mind here. I never knew it could affect your back as well and I ALSO have the back pain (burning) and one Dr told me it HAD to be muscular. I told him it was different than that and he just looked at me like I was nuts. I guess I did not realize that it could hurt as much as it does during the day, even when I dont eat anything. Just a almost constant burning that wont go away!

I guess I will have to do some research on YET ANOTHER problem!! When it rains it pours!!

Thanks again and if anyone else has an experience to share I would appreciate it more than you will ever know!!

heartburn

Hi I just wanted to ask... are you takeing any other medication?
If so check out side effects from them..... I take reg. med and one of them was causing massive heartburn!!!!!! simply lowering the dose made the whole problem go away. (mind you it took a bad situation to fig this out but I am glad to be rid of that pain!) good luck & let me know.

Reflux???

I was on Protonix 40 mg. The cost became prohibitive even with my co-pay, so I have swithced to Zantac 75 mg twice a day. It doesn't work as well, but it will save me about $500 a year.

I try not to drink soda or eat fatty foods. I also do not lie down for 30, minutes after eating.

Reflux???

I checked all of my meds side effects and none of them state heartburn. Also I have been on all of them for months now so I do not think it is medicine related.

I do not have the coughing and my pain is only in my right upper quadrant. I do burp alot and alot of the time stuff comes up, but no burning with it or any relief either! It is just so weird that there are SOO many symptoms that could be the same thing.

I am going to have my PCM look at the test results and run more tests. I just want to make sure it is not a combo of things!!

Thanks again for the help dear sisters!!

I have reflux too.

My symptoms are burning pain that never goes away without my medication (I take prevacid, which to me is a miracle drug). I don't have any pain that radiates to my ribcage or back. I do have coughing and sometimes I think it is my reactive airway disease and then I realize that it is the heartburn and I have not taken my medication.
I do wonder though if you are having esophageal spasms? I have these type pains sometimes and if I drink water strangely enough it goes away. This pain comes and goes and I don't have it very often. My mother and both aunts have the same thing. My mom takes sublingual levsin for it and it works wonders for her. I think it is a smooth muscle relaxer. This is just a thought and something to look into and discuss with your doctors.
I am sorry you are still having all these problems and have no answers. I am glad you haven't given up yet. You will find an answer eventually.

Reflux???

Just a shot in the dark here, but it could be gas, especially if you're burping alot. I know when I have gas pains, they are right under my ribcage, among other places. Gas can also cause back pain. So maybe it's as simple as that! I hope so!
