BTW, I did have an abnormal pap smear several years ago and it turned out being an infection. A round of flagyl and all was well within 10 days. Hopefully, things will turn out ok for you too

Abnormal Pap Smear After Hyster

Hi there...
I just signed into hystersisters for the first time in over a year because I needed some support for the same problem that you are having. I had an abnormal papsmear 10 months ago. I had it repeated 3 months later (December of 2002) and it came back abnormal also. I had to have a vaginal biopsy this past December. I had a complete hysterectomy 3 and a half years ago, so I have no cervix or ovaries. My doctor after looking under the microscope while doing the biopsy said that I had several leisions that looked like dysplasia and that I would probably have to have some surgery. The biopsy came back saying that surgery was not required at the present time, but I would have to have a papsmear every 6 months from now on to keep it under check. I had the papsmear repeated just a few weeks ago and it came back saying that I have mild dysplasia, so my gynecologist is sending me to see a gynecological oncologist. I have an appointment this Friday, and I'm very scared. I've had all kinds of vaginal and vulvar discomfort since I had my hysterectomy. I've been to several doctors trying to find some relief. I'm constantly irriated and sore. My doctor has worked with me very closely to get my estrogen level on track, but the problems still persist. I am not sure what to think of all of this. I will definitely let you know what the oncologist tells me. I wish you the best with your problem. Just know that there are others out there that share this with you.
God bless...

I'm so sorry to hear that you've had an abnormal PAP. It's a very stressful thing, isn't it? I've had abnormal PAP's most of my adult life, and finally had the TAH for carcinoma-in-situ of the cervix. About one year after my TAH I had an abnormal PAP which was very distressing and upsetting for me. We did a colposcopy/biopsy 2 months later to follow up and all came back normal. I've since had 4 more normal PAP's, and am feeling much better about the whole thing.

Try not to worry yourself sick. Lots of things can cause an abnormal PAP, and in many cases it ends up resolving itself. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. Please come back and let us know how your colposcopy goes!
