MORE SURGERY...enterocele and sling repair

I just got back from the uro/gyno today. After bladder testing he explained the following:
That my sling may be just a bit "too great" - giving me maybe a bit more support then needed and making it difficult for me to push out urine at times. The testing showed at times I could empty and at times I retained about 300 ccs in the bladder.
Also, the rectum is coming down into the vagina - enterocele and that should be repaired with some kind of mesh as I really have no tissue there.
I am mulling it over and will return in Aug for an exam and definite plan of action.....all this will mean surgery for Sept.

ANYONE HAVE THIS DONE.......ANY THOUGHTS...I have so much going on. Pain mgmt wants to operate on my back - my foot dr is trying to put off surgery with orthodics and a lot of the meds I take are reactivating my ulcer or I can't take due to glaucoma.

I JUST WANT TO can people live like this?? I mean I know I am not dying, but this sure isn't living. I just don't know what area to "fix" first. I thought I did this already!! ADVICE?

MORE SURGERY...enterocele and sling repair

Hi there Laurlaur, the back pain may be coming from the prolapsed rectum. Fixing one may help the other as back pain is a side effect of prolapse. The pelvic muscles pull on the back when they have prolapsed....Im not saying to have the rectum prolapse operation first but just to give you food for thought ,so to speak. Goodluck in your discussion making as it is a difficult discussion. Have you tried pessaries ,to insert into the vagina to hold up the rectum and see if the back pain dissapairs when you do . I personally dont like them but I think I was ill fitted with my pessery. love debbiepxx

I don't know how people can live like that either! I couldn't - so sought the help of a wonderful specialist in New Brunswick. (I see you're from NJ, too.) Had a TVH, rectocele + cystocele repair, and Burch last year, but within 3 months I was worse than before. My gyn fitted me for a pessary - which I tried for several months before deciding I didn't want to depend on it for the rest of my life. Found this doc in New Brunswick who reopened my abdominal incision and sewed in mesh last March. The surgery was only "half" of my first surgery, and I am feeling TERRIFIC !!! I'm so happy to be able to resume all my daily activities!!!

Wishing you good health,

kaj - weren't you worried they may fix things too much and you will leak again vs not being able to pee? I am concerned that they may have me back where i leak more............but then what are my choices?

Laur - Sorry, I didn't clarify. I never had a leaking problem. This second surgeon questioned why I ever had the Burch done in the first place. I do pee differently now, but I do not have a problem.

My response was directed more towards your enterocele and the mesh. During my second surgery last March, I had mesh sewn in. I am happy to report that ir worked wonderfully and I have returned to doing all the activities I love!

Wishing you good health,

Oh ok...I am not thinking too much about the surgery.....not yet. Just don't know where it will leave me time to treat back pain. I am putting that off until I see if this makes any difference to my back or not.

Thanks for all the support - it is NEEDED and APPRECIATED.

Sorry I'm late in responding here, but I haven't been feeling my best. I'm sorry to hear that you have to have another surgery but do hope that this will bring you to the path off this Road.

Who knows, maybe the enterocele is aggravating the back pains. My docs have mentioned referred pain alot, that is we will feel the pain in one area but it is actually radiating from somewhere else.

I'm sending s and ers
