patch changed, have I changed too? Help!!

I started out after surgery on generic Estrace (Estradiol). It was the big ugly peach patch. I felt great while on it, but I was also still staying home. Last Friday, my Doctor switched me to the smaller twice a week Vivelle Dot. I started back to work Monday in a pretty stressful situation. I have NEVER experienced this feeling of total exhaustion before. My body aches I am so tired. I walk like an 80 year old woman. The doc told me that I wouldn't notice any difference, that both patches are 1 mg estradiol. Is it just going back to work that has done this to me? I'm tempted to go back to the old patch. I went back to work at week 7 so I really didn't expect to be this exhausted. (It's a desk job.) I am going to work 1/2 days the rest of this week & all of next week & see if that helps. Please tell me this is temporary!! I have 2 good sized hematomas that I'm still waiting on to heal if that matters. Any encouraging advice out there? Is this temporary or did the patch change cause this? HELP!! and Thanks!

Hi tabbycat This is the perfect opportunity for you to start an HRT journal, if you haven't already. You are finding out that external factors can influence your HRT requirements. Yes, stress and returning to work can increase your need for estrogen. Also, the patches may not be the same in the sense that the Vivelle patch will typical stick better than the generic and therefore deliver more estrogen. It's hard to say at this point which of these things is causing you to feel different.

I'd start that journal NOW. Keep track of the date, what HRT and vitamins and supplements you are taking and how you feel. No symptom is too insignificant to record. This will help you out a lot later on when you're trying to decide which is the right dosage for you.

Why don't you take it easy, as you plan to, and try to stick with the current Vivelle patch for a few weeks and see where you end up? If at that point you feel you are having symptoms of either high estrogen or low estrogen, you could ask to try a different dosage.

In general, most women here report that the Vivelle dot offers the more consistent delivery as compared with the generic patches, because it sticks so much better and because it's changed twice a week rather than once... so it tends to be the one more of us find is successful for us. I hope it works out for you!

Another to keep in mind is that when you were on the other patch you were home and ing. Returning to work for some of us can cause us to be exhausted. Even though your doctor may have released you for active duty, FULL recovery from a hyst can take from six months to a year.

Do keep the journal as Linda suggests. I did find this to be very helpful in the beginning. However, if being exhausted is your only symptom at this point I would hesitate to change anything immediately.

i wanted to add that it's possible that your hormone reserves may still be depleting which can also contribute to your symptoms. remember that you are still a new princess and need to be pampered!
